So, I’m going to a winter wedding. Pretty close to the bridal party. I have a lovely silk dress to wear that has many beautiful colours in it.

Its suddenly dawned on me that I will need a coat because the wedding is in December.

Whst search term would you use on Vinted? I don’t want to spend loads on a cost I may never wear again.

If you fancy a mooch I’m a large 12 small 14. 5’7” and can wear most colours except cream / brown / orange / autumn colours.

I’d pick your favourite out of the many colours in the dress and get a coat in that. Maybe same colour for shoes to tie it in. You could also deliberately clash the brights and get a pink jacket and orange shoes.

Difficult to suggest a style when we don’t know the shape of the dress. If it’s fit and flare or maxi you’ll want a different shape to if it’s a pencil shift dress.

Can we have a bit more detail? Do you know what shoes you’re planning to wear?

Ooh the colours are lovely! I've just had a look at the "blazers" category, picking out a few of the colours and specifying solid colour. I also narrowed it down to silk or velvet, as I think a luxurious fabric to go with the dress would be good. Cropped would be nice to make the most of the dress.

What about either of these? Anthropologie on Vinted. I’ve got the blue quilted velvet coat, it’s beautiful. Maybe search for a velvet, satin or swing coat?

@SoScarletItWas the dress is from the now defunct Bombshell so it’s a vaguely 40s style, fitted, cinched waist, v neck with a small shawl collar. I got it 18 months ago for a niece’s wedding and feel a million dollars in it.

As for shoes, I’ll get something that works with the coat I think.

@QueenMummyTheFirst i like the first two but I’m worried that I’ll be standing round for ages in late December and I’d be perished in those.

if so the blue velvet coat @Rina66 suggested would look gorgeous!
and wouldn’t be a one use coat either, you could always reuse and dress it down more casual for other occasions.

I’d go for a very dark/deep blue coat or indigo.
You’d also be more likely to wear it again as it will not only look great with this dress, but match loads of other stuff.

I’d go for a fur!

That’s the fabric but it’s a much more vintage style with sleeves and a shawl collar.

ETA mine is that patten but silk jersey

You either want something that hits the waist or meets the full hem length. I always think it looks odd when a coat hits several inches above a skirt length

I would search opera coat or dress coat, I've sold a vintage one this week and described it as a dress coat.
