What to wear to a 50th birthday party

I am 50 female, tall, size10ish. Got a bit of a tan at the moment which hopefully last and light brown shoulder length hair with blonde hightlights.

Event is a 50th birthday in a couple of weeks time evening, in a marquee in the garden (mid sept), DJ, cocktails and wine, quite a cool crowd.

No idea what to wear. I live in gym kit most of the times or shorts or jeans.

My best features are probably my arms and shoulders which are pretty toned and flat stomach, less keen on my legs. Want too look glam without trying to hard and don't want to look frumpy. Happy to wear jeans with a partyish top....might be cool evening so need to consider that. No idea what to wear on my feet, live in birkenstocks and trainers.

Sounds fun. What’s your budget and what sort of shops (other than gym wear) are you already familiar with?

So happy to spend up to £350ish assuming it is something I would wear again.

I am loving the move over-sized look things seem to be these days (my DH less so) but I like Cos, Me&Em, used to love Reiss but going off it....

There is an influencer on instagram called EmmaRoseThatcher whose look I love

Two places I might look would be:

B Sides

and the

Cortana sale.

Just because. Might not be your sort of thing …

@JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome I’ve noticed a few pairs of silk palazzo pants around. M&S has some. Add a silk top and that’s great. The other item of clothing I’ve noticed my on line Red magazine suggesting is a disc sequinned midi skirt. Again it was a M&S one and they still have it. These look like go to pieces for me and add a plainer top with the sequins.

Not heard of these two companies but wow, I actually bought a top very similar to the brown one on the Cortana site a while ago but sent it back but love these looks.

😅 There’s a pink silk halterneck in the Cortana sale that’s just gorgeous. I’ve been keeping an eye on the brand for a while now, even though it’s mostly far too sleek for my current life.

And I don’t generally wear jeans, but if I did I’d give all my money to B Sides. There’s something really appealing about the cut and structure of the pale blue top. (It also comes in navy, but you might think that too ‘frumpy?)

Oh - I suggest a huge vintage cable knit cardigan as outerwear. The sort of thing Marni or Versace used to sell. (Michaela Coel’s character wore one in I May Destroy You - and waded into the sea in it, even though it was so precious the costume people had begged her not to let it get wet. At least, that’s what I read.)

Also something like the Cortana heeled mules. Or a flat mesh ballet shoe - available everywhere.
