Are heels a no no these days?

Bought this gorgeous and sooo flattering jumpsuit from Mango. In the sale!

The legs are on the long side, so I’m considering buying heels, rather than hemming!

But are heels totally OUT these days? They make such a nice line with long trousers, and I love the extra height. (This is probably an even worse crime: I quite like a small platform as well, for even more height!).

What do you think? Maybe a metallic court shoe? Or should I go with flats and hem the trousers?

I’ve had a pair of Esska gold sandals on my wish list for about 5 years. One day I will just buy the damn sandals…

Buy the damn sandals!!

I’m a constant visitor to the Esska site. Their sandals are absolutely gorgeous.

I wish you hadn't told me about that site 😁 I can't buy any more this month.

Agree with pps that you should wear whatever you like and feel comfortable in! Court heels are dated, but you could wear a different style. Kitten heels are ‘in’ but I personally hate them, you could get away with something chunky, or a platform. Love the jumpsuit!

BangingOn · 29/08/2025 16:00

I am one of the few people who misses heels… not the discomfort or the dollying around, but definitely the way my legs look in them. I’ve lost a load of weight and I’m now a size 8, but my legs still look chunky and stumpy in flats.

Instead of cold school courts I love Esska style chunkier heels, or boots with a small heel or platform. I think they can still look current and with the right overall silhouette.

Just to warn you, I tried the Esska Venice shoes, and had to return them. Bought a size down going from reviews, and they managed to be painful at the front like all my toes were getting constantly stubbed, whilst being falling-off-my-feet-level too big at the back when I walked, even done up on the tightest buckle hole. They're a weird fit.

So I sent them back. Which was shit, cos they looked AMAZING (in the box) and I had been lusting after them for literally ages!

I'm assuming not all Esskas fit the same, but since you linked those ones, I just thought I'd give you my honest review, to counterbalance all the Esska-loving that's kicking off 😂

I had a similar problem with the lower heel (Charlie maybe?), they were too loose and flappy around the ankle so didn’t feel stable and I knew that wouldn’t work.

After all the Esska talk on this thread, I ill-advisedly noodled around on the website and bought a pair of flat metallic Hannahs, which are amazing and will go with everything. Weirdly I needed to size up in that style.

Heels kill my feet instantly. I seem to have no
padding at all in the balls of my feet, have tried all the cushioning things to help it. I’m over 6feet tall in heels anyway so never bother with them. I’m sad that they might be making a comeback !

My reservation would be that this is just the sort of hem that you catch your heel in and almost (or actually) faceplant. Ask me how I know 😬

I’m glad I’m not alone with having done this. I had a jumpsuit on with the kids at a skatepark. Caught the heel of my sandal in the hem and tumbled off a ramp. Mortified

Catwoman8 · 01/09/2025 01:04

People are just wearing them less for comfort but heels aren't unfashionable per se. You rarely see anyone wearing a skyscraper 6in heel anymore, but you still see plenty of people wearing wedge sandals, lower block Heels and kitten Heels etc. Go for it!

I barely survived the 90s 😀 Long, flappy trousers and pointy shoes which caught the hem.
Hope you were okay!

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 01/09/2025 13:10

Depends where you're wearing it. There are times when trainers aren't suitable and you'd want to wear heels (black tie events, the races and dressy weddings).

Can never understand the want or need to dress as casual as possible or why trainers are now seen as suitable to wear for every occasion regardless of dress code.

Also the model seems to be wearing pointy court shoes!

OrangeCars · 01/09/2025 13:19

I hate heels, can't walk in them and find them absolutely crippling. I own one single pair, for extremely special occasions. They are Esska Charlie platforms. They are ridiculously comfy (though I had to add some grippy things because I ordered a half size bigger than I needed and they were a little big). They are otherwise absolutely lovely, I can walk on then without feeling like a total idiot, even run around after toddler DC.

CheerfulBunny · 01/09/2025 13:37

I still wear heels often. I have plantar fascitis from wearing them so much in my 20s but I am utterly unrepentant. I recently went out a couple of nights in really quite high platforms and was fine which surprised (and delighted) me. I also wear espadrilles, trainers, chunky boots, brogues etc etc... the shoe is a wide spectrum of wonder IMHO. Why restrict yourself?
You won't get much love for heels on MN though! 😄

Yellowmellowmarshello · 01/09/2025 15:50

I think heels are an absolute classic. Just need a time and place to wear them these days to not feel too overdressed!

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 01/09/2025 16:06

I still wear heels, albeit lower - up to 2.5/3 inches that I did pre-pandemic. Love a really fine and/or sculptural heel, rather than a classic stiletto, kitten or block heel.

The jumpsuit is quite covered up so in terms of shoes, you want something showing a lot of skin to counterbalance all the fabric. Otherwise, as the trouser hems are wide, a sharp pointed flat will look great

Gettingbysomehow · 11/09/2025 18:43

I loved the look of heels but I have steel plates in my pelvis so high heels are out, but I still get my court shoes fix with these. I love the pointed toes. Van Dal £40 more than half price off with a low block heel. They go with everything and come in various colours. I have cream and navy. They also come in half sizes and standard and wide fit.

Are heels a no no these days?
Purplecatshopaholic · 11/09/2025 19:12

I love that jumpsuit. I love heels and still wear them, although I defo wear lower heels since covid (lots of working from home in fit flops and burkies, lol). I would wear that with kitten heels which are stylish but you can walk in them.

@piscofrisco add up all the coffees, takeaways and shite you've bought this year and you'd have bought several pairs of Esska''s if you'd saved the money.
