Single or double breasted?
Plain or pin stripes?
Where to buy?

I have a friend round and I've promised her that the wise ones on mn will help

plain, single breasted, narrow leg trousers from somewhere like topman or river island

fortyplus · 30/05/2008 21:57

What about a 'mod' style/vintage from ebay?

fortyplus · 30/05/2008 22:00

Oh fgs - now she's saying 'where do they live? - maybe that's only trendy in Scotland or somewhere!'

Where are you?

OP posts:
nancy75 · 30/05/2008 22:01

london!

fortyplus · 30/05/2008 22:01

Saggarmakersbottomknocker - she just wants something for him to wear for the 6th form but she's clueless

I'm in the Midlands. ds2 went to his prom dressed like this last year. Complete with winklepickers.

What's the occasion?

nancy75 · 30/05/2008 22:02

double breasted is very old fashioned, as are wide leged trousers!

ravenAK · 30/05/2008 22:04

I would've thought a 16 yo would have v decided views of his own about what suit he wants.

When you say for 6th form, do you mean every day? Does he have to wear a suit?

fishie · 30/05/2008 22:04

mod is single breasted, slim lapels, slim leg. you are all saying the same thing.

not sure re winklepickers but i am out of touch.

nancy75 · 30/05/2008 22:04

how much does she want to spend? shops like burton, topman and river island sell trousers and jackets seperately, so she will be able to get him a couple of pairs of trousers to every jacket.

suwoo · 30/05/2008 22:04

Does the 16 year old lad not know for himself? Anything in Topman would be fine. PMSL at the mention of double breasted.

fortyplus · 30/05/2008 22:08

Apparently he couldn't care less but his mum doesn't want him to have the mickey taken! Yes... he has to wear a suit for the 6th form unless he continues to wear his school blazer - but even though he has no sense of style he would draw the line at that.

He has his 'prom' on 20th June so will also need a suit for that... what do you suggest oh trendy ones?

fortyplus · 30/05/2008 22:09

His mother is now saying that I'm making her sound like a div by bsaying that she thought he'd want double breasted!

Suit with Converse quite trendy too I think.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 30/05/2008 22:10

lol!

fortyplus · 30/05/2008 22:10

nancy75 - she says as it's for school she'd prefer to stick at £100 or so

same kind of thing for his prom, definately NOT one of those silly prom suit things with cummer(sp?)band and no frilly shirts!

fortyplus · 30/05/2008 22:11

Thank you very much everyone - she's moaning at me now for being antisocial and typing instead of pouring her a glass of wine - some people are never happy!

OP posts:
fishie · 30/05/2008 22:11

are there connotations to converse? if he is so unworldly as to not care then better not to get into brands.
