When are you doing the A/W wardrobe swap over?

Will you use it as a chance to declutter too?

I was thinking about this yesterday. I’m not sure I’m quite ready to do the swap yet although I’m scouting out things to fill gaps in my wardrobe / a few pieces to freshen it up. I will definitely do a bit of a declutter when it happens.

dudsville · 26/08/2025 08:34

I find once it's 10c I start to want to wear the warmer things, but my amount of clothing is no longer so much that it requires a wardrobe swap over. Back when it was though, I loved the clear out!

onlyconnect · 26/08/2025 08:36

Not for a while. We often get some lovely weather in September. I might take out the odd item but I won’t do it till at least 20th September

RedRiverShore5 · 26/08/2025 08:43

Certainly not yet, it was 28c yesterday

RedRiverShore5 · 26/08/2025 08:45

I will also declutter but that generally will be well into Autumn as I have some summer stuff to clear but need to make sure summer is truly over.

TheOGCCL · 26/08/2025 09:01

I’ve had a declutter - think you are more ruthless seeing things afresh and asking whether you are really going to wear them. But haven’t got my winter stuff out. I tend to do various swapovers during the year as it’s not magically summer one day and winter the next.

Zippedydodah · 26/08/2025 09:02

End of September or early October usually.

tostaky · 26/08/2025 09:18

It depends on the weather… i have already done a pile of sunmer clothes, ironed and ready for storage. I will add more to it in the next upcoming weeks. This afternoon o am going shopping for an autumn jacket and for autumn/winter shoes. Yesterday i wore summery shoes. Today im wearing trainers. Im going to italy early october so i will keep my summer clothes/shoes accessible until then. Also wanting to buy a nice pair of summery flats in the sale!

Floisme · 26/08/2025 09:20

I don't do my switchover all at once - it's very gradual, like the weather. But I'm unlikely to do much before late September.

I had an autumn/winter declutter early in the year when I had far too much time on my hands, and I already regret it.

mondaytosunday · 26/08/2025 09:27

Gosh you are organised. My ‘swapping over’ is just the redistributing of things hanging off the bathroom hook and radiator. The pile on top of my chest of drawers never seems to change.

RedRiverShore5 · 26/08/2025 09:29

Mine don't move far anyway, they get folded up and put in those Ikea soft storage cases at the top of the Pax wardrobe which are a bit high up

Cinaferna · 26/08/2025 09:37

What is a swapover (genuine question?) I just start wearing the jumpers in my jumper drawer and taking jeans and cords off their hangers instead of linen trousers. I don't really wear sandals very often so will carry on wearing favourite trainers until it rains heavily and then switch to boots.

I do a swapover to make use of all the space in the ceiling height wardrobe or the rather hard to use top shelves would be wasted, at the moment all my winter woolies, trousers and scarves are up there.

Nevertrustacop · 26/08/2025 09:55

I swap 1st October and 1st April. I only ever buy one in one out, so don't usually need to do much decluttering.

gingercat02 · 26/08/2025 09:57

It's still 17°plus on the weather outlook here so not for a while yet. I keep cardis and few long sleeved cotton tops out all year for the odd chilly early autumn/late spring day. Hopefully we are a way off from jumpers and vests!

JustJazzy · 26/08/2025 12:07

I do it at the start of September, I love a/w clothes!
I don’t take out my big woolly jumpers and heavy winter coats just yet but will put away my lighter wash jeans, linen trousers, oversized white shirt and anything that is very summery and take out my darker wash jeans, heavier weight trousers, Spanx leggings, check shirts, long sleeve tops, light weight knits.
I wear sleeveless tops and tees all year around but I put away any that are very summery or lightweight.

I’m not a fan of sandals only have 1 pair of DM gryphon quads that I think I’ve worn twice, even on holiday I wear trainers or flip flops 🙈😄

My boots stay out all year around apart from my fur lined dms and converse, I’ll leave them away till probably the start of October.

I love a good declutter and sort out when changing over, takes me about a week to do it 🙈 I store all out of season clothing and footwear in plastic tubs in a large built in cupboard on the landing. There are 2 hanging rails in there also which are used for coats and occasion wear.

I either sell what I don’t want or doesn’t fit(my issue this year, I’ve put on weight since last winter 🙄😄) on vinted or drop to the charity shop(after I drive around with the bags in the boot for a good 2 months 🙈😄).

henlake7 · 26/08/2025 12:23

Most of my wardrobe stays out, the things I tend to store and swap are dresses, skirts, coats and shoes/boots.
I will probably swap alot of the skirts and dresses out at the start of sept. I feel like I can get away with opaque tights from then and as I refuse to get my bare legs out I go from summer maxis to a/w minis!
Boots and coats will stay where they are til maybe mid Oct.

winnieanddaisy · 26/08/2025 12:44

I’ve lost four stone since Christmas. I bought a whole new summer wardrobe which I’m still wearing , and over the pst six weeks or so I’ve been buying winter stuff . 3 pair jeans , 2 denim midi skirts , 2 pair trousers, and several shirts and jumpers . That will do me but I won’t put my summer clothes away till probably the end of September. I tend to overheat .
