Annual Style and Beauty Advent Calendar discussion thread. First AC reveal this year was 23rd June. First luxury reveal was 2nd July.

Thread 1: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5360770-2025-style-and-beauty-advent-calendar-discussion

The regulars on the thread mainly discuss luxury BAC and this dies down by September when everyone has purchased and forgotten the contents. Then it goes into discussion on what’s selling out, what hasn’t and what deals and discounts to be had on ACs in the lead up to December. Then in December we move onto AC opening threads!

There’s a separate thread for GWP, discounts and other deals here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5338957-beauty-chat-freebiesgifts-with-purchaseoffers-thread-three

It's on Boots Instagram now. I'll need to watch the unboxing on youtube to make up my mind. Is the unboxing on YouTube just for the skincare calendar?

Edited

They are both on YouTube, I just provided the link to the skincare one.

MrsBnow12 · 28/08/2025 07:45

@Housewife2010I agree she was annoying and does show how good some of the other YouTubers are who do unboxings. I was also hoping for more Korean products and not sure I will get this one now.

For me personally, I prefer Elle even though we still need a proper list of products and sizes and Ok is also on my maybe list.

Yes, I really like the Elle one too. I think it'll be difficult to top that one if you're more into skincare. I have also re-reviewed the Look Fantastic one and like that one too. And the spoilers from the OK! one interest me too.

I hope we get some more reveals today, I'm getting really antsy and want to get the Harrods one ordered if Sephora isn't going to top it. I can't remember which others we're waiting on 😕

PluirinSneachta · 28/08/2025 08:20

I agree @Housewife2010 I hate to be mean, but she was very annoying. So insincere and didn’t describe any of the products. I would love to know what colour the Fenty lip product is, but she didn’t even open it.
Overall, I was underwhelmed by it. Far too many minis.

The latest Boots K beauty skincare edit is now on sale £35. I put a link in the Chat thread.

Watched both unboxings from Boots. Can't see them on the site yet though.

I quite like the Premium Beauty one but maybe not enough to buy it. I'm not that keen on most of the make up in it but I like the cleansers and and the DE cream. Can anyone remember how much they were pricing that one at? Was it the £250 range?

£150 I think, and £70 for the other one.

@Ohdear7 Thanks for listing contents!!

At work so had a skin read, will watch unboxing later to see if i want any. I did have in mind 24 days of skin, but will have to watch to see which i prefer! Or any at all!

Agree. I like some of the products in the Boots premium beauty calendar but at £150 it falls into mid tier and others like Elle (£130) seem like better value. I particularly like the power B serum in Elle and that’s £110 on its own.

I've signed up to the Holland and Barratt advent calendar waitlist and would be interested in hearing from those that have had it before.

@MentyB I picked up the ted baker advent for around £36 last October. My husband enjoyed opening it.

I had it last year and loved it. Lots of full sizes and only a few items I wouldn't use (bath sales, arm cuffs for washing your face). I even liked the toothpaste 😁 I was also surprised to like the scalp brush and the scalp scrub.

For me, one of the main draws was no makeup.

ElizabethG81 · 28/08/2025 08:36

Thanks. Not bad. Worth considering then. Like with all of them there is quite a few things I don't want but until my personally curated RHOBAC calendar comes to fruition this is always going to be the case.

Just seen that LF are discounting that 30ml Zelens serum by 66% to £44 right now. Suddenly Elle seems less attractive…Still waiting for Ok

OnionBag · 28/08/2025 08:54

I think I’ll go for the Boots premium AC. The items that I won’t use my DD will.

Doubleraspberry · 28/08/2025 09:32

My Liberty arrived while I was away and ended up on the doorstep for 48 hours despite my warning my family to check for it. Argh. Luckily we live in a small place and it doesn't seem damp either. The bag is beautiful - haven't had a chance to look further yet.

Hicupping · 28/08/2025 09:42

I think Boots is a no sadly. Too many not bothered abouts. Aveda botanical repair I've been through 2 tubes of this and I'm not sure it's does anything. I think Aveda is overrated. Be interesting to see ebay prices on the DE and EL. In the other one I was expecting more Korean and it's a bit teenagerish for me with no teenagers to offload to.

Addictedtobeauty · 28/08/2025 10:08

I’m not wowed by either Boots calendar.

Like many of you, I’ve also had a bit of a stocktake and I really should not be buying any more.

Caggie09 · 28/08/2025 10:15

Another no for Boots. Going to stick with SNK. Just waiting for the SNK fragrance reveal now!

IlovePond · 28/08/2025 10:30

Hi,

Someone on another thread mentioned that ASOS have a beauty sale on and code: QUICK takes another 10% off! I have bought a couple of things for my DIY calendar.

Also: Harrods, (of all places!) have the Gisou lip oil for £14.40, (one colour only).

I was thrilled to discover that I had £10 in Rewards points I didn’t know I had, so I have done a C&C to my nearest H store. Also got a free Creed perfume sample with the order.

That is also going in my DIY calendar!

IlovePond · 28/08/2025 10:34

Although I do say so myself, my DIY calendar is looking pretty good.

I am giving it all to DH to pack for me in whichever order he chooses. Hopefully he will add a couple of non beauty things himself as a surprise. (This worked out quite well last year, except he has no idea which items are ‘better’ than others, so day 24 was a bit of a letdown 😹)

Housewife2010 · 28/08/2025 10:38

At last! I couldn't bear to watch the annoying unboxing again. https://beauty-detective.com/boots-advent-calendars-2025/ beauty-detective.com/boots-advent-calendars-2025/]]]]

Quite like the look of that Boots premium - wish you could still part pay with points 😿I have about £20’s worth that never seems to increase enough to spend!

owlexpress · 28/08/2025 10:43

Another one disappointed in both Boots calendars. The sneak peeks were pretty much the best of the bunch, I can't understand this strategy. I had high expectations for the Premium with the spoilers and the price increase, but they're boring. I assume they're targeting a younger crowd.

YourLemonGuide · 28/08/2025 10:44

clary · 22/08/2025 23:19

I am so sorry I filled up the last thread with my witterings about the JLP calendar! I didn;t realise till I had a good look and went back to say:

  • red lippy AGAIN I am not 25!
  • The Ordinary again I can buy that for £10 thanks
  • Two lip oils and three eye creams? I don't really want more than one if that many
  • ANddddd £235?? last year it was £195 I am sure.
Overall altho the fragrance is nice (Le Labo!) and the Medik8 and Pai night cream and oil look good, I think the DoDs and the price may have tipped me finally towards Liberty. I can always mentally knock £20 off the Lib price as I can usually sell the box for about that. So it’s only £20 more which is nothing #girlmath

I’m with you on this, these advent calendars are basically brands offloading stuff nobody really wants, then slipping in one or two good bits to make it look exciting. And the prices keep creeping up every year! Feels like you’re paying a small fortune for a bunch of minis you’ll never use😏

Doubleraspberry · 28/08/2025 10:45

I also quite like the Boots Premium but now I've got my Liberty I'm feeling like that will be enough beauty for me this December. (Shocking!) There are some nice products in there I will stalk on Vinted.

My ten year old would like a make up calendar (the sight of Liberty energised her). Just now trying to work out which reasonably priced one would be appropriate - she mostly wants sparkly eye and cheek things rather than mascaras/eyeliners, and also likes bath products. I'm wondering about DIY and brands that would be good.

My elder one has gone off E.L.F. Apparently the founder has been a bit cancelled on social media (can't remember why) so I'm back to square one/DIY with her.

For both I'm really conscious that DIY can mount up quickly to an amount that I'm not comfortable spending on advents for my kids!
