Is Tissot a classy watch & good quality?

Thinking of buying myself a nice watch as a birthday present to myself. I've never had a designer watch, I only own two - one's a steampunk watch from etsy (which I love!), and the other's a high street watch with different coloured straps. I really like the idea of a more 'ladylike' watch for want of a better description - something two tone and metal, so that it looks like jewellery.

Something like this: https://www.tissotwatches.com/en-gb/T1292102203100.html

Is Tissot worth the money? Are there any other brands with similar looking watches that would be better (I really like this classic style and I want something that will last forever!) Thanks

My granny had a Tissot watch that got stepped on by an elephant (this was in the 70s) the watch still works. It was absolutely fine after the elephant incident.

Go to a shop, try it on and get the bracelet adjusted. it's a nice looking watch.
Avoid elephants.

I do have a similar one to the one on the link. It is fine but i don’t wear it because the hands are too small and i cant see them if i am not wearing my glasses (which i only need for reading). I wear a similar looking amazon watch, the hands are bigger and i cant see them see them without glasses. So i say if you dont need glasses for reading, go for it!

Haha me too. I now have an oversized Swatch.

Thank you to everyone who has confirmed they didn't have a reaction to their Tissot. I'm going to treat myself for my birthday.

I hope you love the watch you choose OP and have a fantastic birthday xx

I'm another one who doesn't have a reaction, I have very sensitive skin. Go for it!

I have a Tissot, an 18th birthday present bought in 1998 and it's still in great condition. No reactions, face is still scratch free. Mine was £180 27 years ago, I'm not sure what it's equivalent is now, but it doesn't look dated at all.

Go for it!

A decent brand. The other one at that price point is Rotary so maybe try some from both. TK Maxx had some Rotary watches in recently - even if you buy there you can still get them serviced and repaired by Rotary.

I have a citizen that is very similar looking and was a similar price , it’s almost 10 years old and still looks fantastic . Not sure if it’s or are kinetic but citizen eco drive are kinetic so never need a battery which was a massive plus for me

Not so sure about that one. The ecidrive is only guaranteed for 10 years & between me & my mum we’ve had three that stopped working around that time. We had to buy new watches.

Thanks everyone, it's good to know that it's actually value for money. I don't normally buy "designer" things so I'm wary of spending so much dough. I think I'm going to spoil myself!!

I love my Tissot. Just be aware that you will have to send it back to them every few years for a new battery and a service, as it seems impossible to just buy a new battery and get it fitted or do it yourself!

ImWearingPantaloons · 24/08/2025 18:16

I had a Tissot for my 18th and have my dads which he bought just before I was born.

Both great watches and really stylish - go for it!

frugalkitty · 25/08/2025 22:31

I've had mine 22 years and never reacted to it (unlike my gold wedding ring, but that's a different story!). I think I paid about £120 for it in John Lewis back then, I was going back to work after having DS1 and wanted something waterproof in case I forgot to take it off when I was doing his bath.
I'm lucky though as I know someone who works for them and he does any servicing/battery changes for me!

RampantIvy · 25/08/2025 22:40

Mine is very similar. I have had it for several years and love it.

TiredGardener · 25/08/2025 22:45

I’ve had mine for four years and love it ! Looks very classy
