Autumn Winter - what do we think we'll be seeing in the shops this year?

I keep seeing that brown trainers are going to be everywhere this AW, but what else do we think we'll be seeing on the High Street?

I'm not exactly a 'fashionista', but I like a subtle nod to trends that I do like. I'm still loving wide-leg trousers but love that there are so many different styles of trousers and jeans these days. I'm in the market for a new winter jacket this year and have no idea what I want!

Brown (not just for trainers), burgundy, maybe some teal and purple, suede, stripes are apparently big (when were they not?), I think lots of checks too, tweed, big leather squishy bags, possibly some slouchy boots, and I think asymmetric skirts may be making a comeback. It's basically 2004 all over again.

samlovesdilys · 22/08/2025 19:33

Loafers and Mary Jane’s appear to be THE shoe…I’m currently searching for the nirvana shoe that looks good, is comfortable and goes with everything!!

Oh I hope so!!

Also, fringing, peplum tops, wearing two belts at once and coats that look like a coat/scarf/shawl mashup, if the catwalks are anything to go by. Brown and burgundy will be big, also head-to-toe black and western, especially denim.

newrubylane · 22/08/2025 19:54

I am excited for the return of the peplum 😁

Oh I'm excited by this! I still have a gorgeous suede fringed bag that hasn't been in fashion for 20 years but I've never been able to bring myself to ditch it. I better hide it or DD will be nicking it before I know it.

What's the thing with rugby shirts and micro skirts?

Really? Blimey, it truly is 2004 again.

I was boho then, not so much now. I have just bought some western boots on Vinted though, and I still have an alpaca wool poncho that I bought in Peru in 2001.

I used to loathe brown and wore a lot of black when I was younger. Now that I'm, ahem, a little more mature, I find brown so much more forgiving!

Think it’s the Miu Miu look

Britpopbaby · 23/08/2025 07:56

Brown doesn’t excite me at all! I have a brown All Saints jumper that will suffice for a nod to this trend. Here’s a vogue article https://www.vogue.co.uk/article/autumn-winter-2025-fashion-trends

The Key Autumn/Winter 2025 Trends To Know Now

Textiles - The cost of heating isn't going down so I think there will be more lambswool. Environmentally safe, and warm.

Styles - straight leg trousers, knitted slimline skirts, block heeled boots.

Colours - plum, bright red, ginger, sage, teal

EspanaPorfavor · 23/08/2025 09:43

Lots of suede jackets in shops at the moment

Floisme · 23/08/2025 11:01

Thanks for the Vogue article, although I really cannot take seriously any fashion writer who claims that punk 'burst onto the scene' in the 80s.

Aside from brown (Hurray!) the standout for me is the way knee length skirts look interesting again. I don't know how they've managed it but I'm feeling very pleased with myself for keeping some.

No thanks! I really dont like peplum, which is odd because I love balloon sleeves, ruffles, anything 'extra' but for some reason peplum just doesnt appeal.

I will be more then happy to see autumn colours like chocolate brown and burgundy back in again though.

lol, the good thing about being too old to care is I still use all my lovely fringed bags and jackets :).

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/08/2025 23:20

Last AW I saw lots of houndstooth/check for jackets .
I saw a woman on the train wearing the most gorgeous patterned coat -it was the pattern more than the garment . But of course didn't ask her "Excuse me , d'you mind if I ask where you bought this"?

It was shades of brown, tan, beige, sage , charcoal in the tiniest puppytooth , no black or white in it .
So nice

echt · 24/08/2025 09:27

Brown trainers, and those whose colour is muted by a brown/grey wash have been all over Melbourne this winter, so heading your way. All the vivid jewel colours have gone.

So. Bloody. Boring.

deeahgwitch · 24/08/2025 09:31

Are dropped waist dresses coming back ?

tobee · 24/08/2025 20:53

Brown? Still? And burgundy? I don't mind burgundy to be fair but chocolate brown and boring beige/camel has been in for a while now.

KateMiskin · 24/08/2025 20:54

When will the puff sleeves go? When?
Cries.

TitaniasAss · 27/08/2025 15:18

I was shopping today and agree that brown seems to be everywhere. I agree it's a tad boring but it's a bit more forgiving on me than black. I do have brown pumas so that might be my nod to that and a jumper may be my nod to that trend this year.

Floisme · 27/08/2025 15:32

Well I'm sorry to people who don't like brown but we had to put up with grey for what must have been 20 years. (I remember popping into Debenhams and being confronted with it on my way to collect my son from nursery and he's 27 now). And black never goes away. So this is our time. Smile
