Help! What to wear with wedding dress?

I'm getting married next Thursday. Casual, registry office do. Of course the weather has turned and it's now forecast to be rainy and fairly cold.

What would you wear with this dress? Tbh I think wearing anything with it at all will probably destroy the overall look because it's such a summery piece, but my thought was a cashmere cardi for the contrast? I'm wearing light blue leather mules with it, a gold bangle, and gold earrings. I'm brown skinned though much lighter (and shorter!) than the model pictured.

Alternatively, should I abandon it altogether and wear this dress (that I don't like on me nearly as much but is slightly easier to pair with something warmer).

Love the dress you have linked. Can't see the second dress.

jamnpancakes · 22/08/2025 12:10

We need to see the other dress but I think your solution sounds great. It's a lovely dress plus you're not getting married outside. Plenty time to get sorted once you are in the building.

I much prefer the first dress.

Me too! 😊Had a baby 8 months ago and it’s the perfect disguise 😂

Both dresses are absolutely gorgeous. Can you just take a big cool brolly and have a leather jacket to chuck over if needed?

Clarabell77 · 22/08/2025 13:19

Prefer the first dress, what about an ivory shawl, pashmina type thing that you can just wear when outdoors to keep the cold off but remove once you get inside?

TheDayBeforeYouCame · 22/08/2025 13:21

Just wear a coat and take it off when you are inside. Give it to one of your guests to look after. Put it in when you leave. I think a cardigan would ruin the look

Deschampsia · 23/08/2025 09:59

Probably a bit late, but...
To my mind a cardigan would ruin the silhouette of that dress completely. If it's not too cold I'd go for a lightweight, wafty shawl that you can take off for photos. Try the wool company - lots of shades of blue - also cream if you prefer.

If it's truly shivery weather then opt for extra insulation under the dress: a body or lightweight, tight-fitting jumper in a tone that approximates your skin colour - it'll be less noticeable in photos than in the flesh and you won't lose the silhouette (or land up with lips matching your blue shoes.

Cashmere pashmina for sure

Faineante · 23/08/2025 10:13

First dress is fab!

I’d say something short + umbrella - you don’t want to crush the hem. These sort of ideas, but not full length.

Like a cardigan but very short so the dress shape shows. Like a pair of arms if possible!

ZaZathecat · 23/08/2025 12:54

This kind of thing (this is a kids one but you get the idea)

Just wear a coat/whatever before you go in and when you come out, if needed.

It would be awful to put anything over that gorgeous dress. So don't. The ceremony room will not be cold or wet will it? Don't mess around with it please.

Congratulations and have a super day.

Blueuggboots · 23/08/2025 14:20

The second dress is lovely and would look great with a cardigan or a leather jacket. The first dress would be a no from me.

ToadRage · 28/09/2025 13:56

I prefer the first dress. As its causal you could wear a shrug or cardi in a colour. A short or cropped cardi won't take to much from the shape of the dress.

Faineante · 28/09/2025 14:07

As the OP was getting married at the end of August I doubt she’s bothered now …

IamEarthymama · 28/09/2025 18:56

How did the wedding go!
what did you wear?
I do so hope it was the first dress, I love it!!
