Waxing and hair length

I never normally get waxed but I got a voucher so I'm booked in for a half leg wax and an extended bikini wax and I'm hoping someone can help answer a few questions please. Apologies for the length of the post and if the questions are stupid and things a woman in her 40s should know 🫣

  1. am I right in thinking a half leg wax means from ankle to knees?

  2. I haven't shaved my legs in about 3 months so obviously pretty hairy and long. What's the "best" length for waxing? Can you be too long or too short to be waxed? (My appointment is in just over 2 weeks so I have time to shave if I need to)

  3. similar to question 2, my pubic hair is very bushy (a bloody mess tbh) again is there an ideal length and can it be too long or too short to be waxed?

  4. I appreciate everyone tolerates waxing/pain differently but any top tips from those who regularly get waxed (especially the bikini wax) to make it as pain-free and pleasant an experience as possible would be gratefully recieved

I have just really let my self care go lately and I'd like this appointment to kick-start me so to speak in making an effort (for myself) to look and feel good so I want to make sure I get the most out of the appointment rather than turning up looking like chewbacca and the beauty therapist stammering she doesn't have enough wax/time.....!

Yes, a half-leg wax is from ankle to knee (and, perhaps, the tops of your toes if you have a very generous waxer!). Your waxer will tell you the best position to have your legs in to make it as quick and as pain-free as possible.

I can't say I've ever had a bikini wax, but I'm sure someone else will come along and tell you all about it!

Hair should be about the length of a grain of rice for waxing.

If you're nervous, take a couple of painkillers an hour before you go. Good luck!

In the last 2 years I have started to go to a professional waxer, rather than doing my own legs. Re the best length, it difficult to say as everyone is different re hair density on legs, but I now go every six weeks so mine is longer than a grain of rice when I get it re-waxed but it still is very fine now. Speak to someone at the salon and they will be happy to help with your query.
Bikini wise I have gone from a tidy up to a Brazilian now. I have quite a high pain threshold so I only find the bit when she waxes close to my perineum tender. However if you are having a standard bikini wax you should be fine. I found the build up to the first wax more scary than the actual wax. A good waxer will put you at ease and it will be over and done before you know it!
There is no going back to DIY for me after finding the right waxer.

I messaged the lady doing it and shes forbidden me to shave lol she said the longer the better for a quicker cleaner wax so I'm just going to keep wearing trousers and then get her to advise on when is best to rebook in (assuming i can tolerate the pain! I had a wax about 20yrs ago and that's my only experience really) thank you both for replying as it helped push me to send the message to the lady and settled my anxiety about it in general. Here's to getting back to self care and feeling and looking better

When I used to go for waxing, yep the longer the better for me - but I lived in trousers so it was never a problem - only waxed for holidays

Bikini is ok. You just need to stretch the skin as tight as you can and it won't hurt, I find getting my eyebrows getting threaded more painful

Wear a pair of wide legged trousers when you go to come home in - legs will be very sticky

Do exactly as the beautician says re not shaving. She has the power 😀.

Some points have already been covered up thread. l have monthly Hollywood waxes. Over the years my body has got used to it, it’s not exactly a walk in the park but neither is it painful. I would describe it as a little uncomfortable and better than the dentist!

The first time is the worst and l would suggest a couple of paracetamol beforehand; l don’t bother anymore though. In addition don’t go a few days before a period is due when the sensitivity is higher and l would suggest not having sex the same day.

You’ll certainly find things less sweaty in the warm weather.
