wasn't sure whether this should be health or style and beauty. but let's face it, it's about cosmetic appearance really so I opted for here. anyone had it done? is it worth it? anyone have that apparently possible but rare painful reaction to it?

i have rather yellowy teeth (so charming) and was told that veneers only option. i certainly wouldn't do that.

are your teeth stained? have you got a trustworthy dentist to ask? where is cov?

Laser whitening was painful as hell for me, but only for a
little while, then Persil-white teeth.

I've also had the trays may for me by teh dentist that you use at home with bleaching gel. They take longer, but do work better, and if you need a top up after a yera or so, can just get more gel instead of having to pay for the laser whitening again.

(I'm not a pipe smoker by the way, I used to work as a beauty journo, so got to try lots of things for free!)

i got mine done at the dentist-best thing I ever did. Not the laser one, just the trays and there was a slight sensitivity just after doing it but not enough to put me off. I have the trays in the house and top up whenever I want

I have the trays & bleach supplied by my dentist but OMG, it hurts! He's given me a special super-flouride toothpaste but that only makes a marginal difference, and I have very healthy teeth.
Still, it does work, although I've not yet done the full course due to the pain (which nothing touches - have tried ibuprofen etc). I'm not sure I'd do it again.

geekgirl · 30/05/2008 12:48

so it's quite normal to be in pain from it then? My dentist said it was unusual. Fibber!

missblythe · 30/05/2008 13:35

He's a liar!

Sometimes I used to find it so painful that my legs would almost buckle.

Keep looking at the trays in my drawer, as I know I could do with a top up, but not sure I can bear it!

Have had laser done but wouldn't spend the money on it again - I would just get the trays from your dentist and the gels, (that's what I do now) - it will take a week to bleach them but north worth spending the extra money just to get them done in an hour - you still have to take the trays home and do a course of the gels even after having them lasered.

a wee trick if you find it really painful is to coat your teeth afterwards with sensodyne toothpaste and leave it on while you sleep. It seems to help.
