When do you wear a knitted dress?

I went through a phase of buying knitted or crochet dresses - and they are rolled up in my cupboard. I have abit of a postpartum tum, which is going down, but the knitted dresses I have are pretty figure hugging - they are all maxi’s. Before the baby I’d wear them all summer - but now I feel a little self conscious in them.

So I am wondering how or when you wear knitted dresses. What style you have and if you wear any shapewear.

My DD loves them, all sleeveless and figure hugging. With dainty trainers and shoulder bag in the daytime, with cotton shirt knitted at waist if needed for cover, and kitten heel mules and a mini cross bag on the chain to dress up. Oversized denim jacket from for cool nights / weather. I can also see them work well with a utility jacket in faded khaki, with a cream dress… Now you have made me want one too!

Confidence is your best accessory? Enjoy the rest of your summer 🌷

Wore one this week for a Michelin starred lunch and then a West End opening night.

I’m possibly twice your age (if not more). My dress is two or three years old, from Loulou de Saison, (nothing quite as nice on the site currently) originally bought to appear at a summer festival, and I’ve worn it often since then. It’s a silk and cotton mix, ribbed, sleeveless, instep-length. Before I put on weight it was an elegantly skimming size 10, now it’s a bit tighter and I had taken to wearing shapewear with it. But I wanted to eat (and drink) freely, and really, on a long, boiling hot day ending with two hours in a theatre seat, restrictive underpinnings were just not a good idea.

Trying to remember what I wore with it - tan coloured t bar loafers from Grenson (usually I would wear heavy boots but … ☀️) and an ancient Toast straw basket. Tiny emerald hoops and an enamel Hermes bangle. Outfit complimented by random strangers.

Dress is currently being laundered so I can wear it again over the weekend!

I never wear them. Even though Im slim they make me look lumpy and just weird. I can't tolerate shspewear.
