Dress heartbreak - can you please help me find something similar?!

Hi all,
I've got a wedding coming up and have absolutely fallen in love with this dress (AJE) but, I can't stand the sleeves! Can anyone help me find anything similar, or suggest anything else?!
About me, I'm mid 30s, size 8 with, 5ft 1 with short legs. Narrow shoulders. Pale but will fake tan a bit, dark blonde hair.
Even a mild puff sleeves looks ridiculous on my small frame so they're out.
I am trying desperately to avoid the floral effect that you get at weddings, and am known to my friends as being slightly 'out there' with fashion but by no means wild. Last year I wore a lilac suit to a wedding which went down very well but it'll be the same venue and many of the same people, so I'm keen to try something different but lilac is an option.
Budget is small so I'm looking for something which I can buy for under £100 or rent for the same. So happy with designer suggestions I can then search for. Or find on vinted of course. I like pleats, stripes, tie dye, ombre, blurry prints or no prints at all. I love pink and yellow but open to others. Oranges and dark reds wash me out but I'm open to a pop of red. The bridesmaids are in green.
If you have any brand suggestions I'd love to check them out!

it's sleeveless though @User415373

So many great options. I'm really loving the cape detail ones!
The SilkFred one keeps catching my eye on different sites but I can't decide if it looks cheap or not!
Also really liking the Karen Millen ones, and realising that I'm quite keen on the pleat effect!
Spilling something on my dress made me chuckle! Heartbreak is dramatic but I love clothing and spend months thinking about what to wear for an event. It's half the fun for me, a hobby if you will! Once the kids are asleep later I'm going to choose something.

Sorry, somehow managed to post that again.

Let us know what you choose, OP!

Just buy that dress and get a seamstress to change the sleeves. The lady I use would do that easily and probably charge me £20 tops.

sweetpickle2 · 15/08/2025 14:01

To everyone who keeps suggesting removing sleeves- IT’S A RENTAL. It’s literally in the OP.

Spooky2000 · 15/08/2025 19:16

Well I love it but don't understand why you don't buy it and take it to someone and say "get rid of these sleeves, please" ?

Because as has been said by OP and others… she’s going to rent it because it’s not in her budget to buy it.

You probably would understand if you read the OP’s posts properly… she can’t afford to buy it, and you can’t have the sleeves removed from a rental dress!

Get the sleeves removed.

OP has said if she decided to wear this dress it would be a rental so that’s not an option. As has been pointed out over and over again.

You could get a seamstress to take the sleeves off. I get a lot of my clothes altered by a local lady because my waist is so small and things that fit my hips bag out on the waist. They could also make new sleeves out of the old ones or just alter them.
I don't know how I managed before finding Rachael.
It's a beautiful dress.

This. A good dressmaker would be able to unpick and make different sleeves from all that material. But I’d show her the pic first.

Growlybear83 · 16/08/2025 21:29

if you really love the dress, why not buy it and alter the sleeves? It would be quite simple to do, or get it altered. Lots of dry cleaners do alterations, and I don’t think they would charge too much.

Growlybear83 · 16/08/2025 21:30

Oops - sorry, I hadn’t taken in that the OP would be renting the dress

Booboobagins · 16/08/2025 22:27

Ah so you can't buy it and have the sleeves altered or removed... bugger!

If I was you, I'd go sleeveless and take a cape/bolero/jacket.

Debenham has loads of varieties this one is beautiful https://www.debenhams.com/product/coast-pleat-halter-midi-dress_bcc10138?colour=multi&size=8

Some fantastic options thanks so much everyone! I really like the one shoulder ombre effect ones actually, I'd need something for my shoulders as I'm doing a reading in the church.
Next favourite option is to hire the skirt and then find a top to go with it.

Trust me, you really don't need anything for your shoulders! (Anglican priest.)

OP has already said she is renting the dress so the sleeves can’t be removed

KaitlynnFairchild · 17/08/2025 16:32

Rent the dress, take off the sleeves, add them back on, return the dress.

I have no idea about sewing but I wanted to join the take off the sleeves chorus. I was feeling left out.
