Jo Malone fragrance - does it last on you

Purplecatshopaholic · 12/08/2025 10:02

That’s twice I have tried Jo Malone fragrances - the raspberry ripple, and the cypress and grapefruit. Both vanished into oblivion really quickly, sadly, as they are both gorgeous scents. Won’t be buying JM again as it seems a waste of money. Does JM last on you, just out of interest? Why do some fragrances last better on some people than others? Dont have this problem with other fragrances, maybe JM are weaker? Doesn’t seem to say if they are eau de toilette or parfum, so unaware of strength. Back to other brands instead - currently trying out a Dior sample of Rose Star - nice, but a bit err, rose-y for me, lol

It doesn't on me. A waste of money.

Cheesecrunch · 12/08/2025 10:03

I have an Orange Marmalade one from last summer that lasts and smells amazing.

BusyEvenForBee · 12/08/2025 10:04

The same, scents are wonderful but sadly do not last.

ArghMyEars · 12/08/2025 10:07

Same. I had high hopes when I received some as a gift but sorely disappointed.

GrumpyCowBag · 12/08/2025 10:07

I absolutely love the English pear and freesia I think it’s called. I’m not sure it stays very long so I spray it lots haha

Yiayoula · 12/08/2025 10:11

I love Jo Malone fragrances but they fade faster than any other perfumes I have - I think they’re quite notorious in that respect .

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 12/08/2025 10:13

I'm finding this with a lot of perfume these days. They don't have the staying power they used to have. Like so much in life.....🤔

I'm going to predict a return to the "power" frags of the 80s, Poison, Dune, Opium.

TheChosenTwo · 12/08/2025 10:14

dh bought me the raspberry ripple one 5 weeks ago. I’m about halfway through the big bottle - it needs reapplying in large quantities at very regular intervals.
It’s a shame, I love the scent but it has no lasting power and I won’t buy a new one when this runs out.
I’ll enjoy it while I have it but it’s not worth the price for me.
perfumes don’t often last on me, one that does is by Vilhelm parfumerie, it’s maybe £250 a bottle (or around that, I can’t remember!) but it’s worth it to me as the scent lasts. Much better value.

BerfyTigot · 12/08/2025 10:18

I was just thinking the same yesterday! Really love JM Red Roses but it doesn't last on me at all!

I thought it was just me as some others don't last on me, but i can still smell the cheapy one that I sprayed on me in the chemist yesterday 🤷‍♀️

Used to wear Elizabeth Arden perfumes which seemed to last on me. Is it a particular chemical that lasts better? Or is it my skin flora 🤢? I'm honestly not especially sweaty 😁

ParvuliThankYouDebbie · 12/08/2025 10:22

No sadly, I spray more to make up for it and I do love a few of their scents (same for Jo Loves). But weirdly the Cypress and Grapevine lasts all day on DH. 🤷‍♀️

Dublassie · 12/08/2025 10:26

Yep , same here . Just fell in love with English Pear and freesia and it just won’t last . Annoying . Especially as it’s so expensive. Someone mentioned using the body lotion etc. also but I can’t quite bring myself to buy any more as it’s so dear .

Puppylucky · 12/08/2025 10:26

The perfume parlour dupes of Jo Malone are generally lovely and have much better staying power

PInkyStarfish · 12/08/2025 12:36

No, like many brands it’s gone downhill.

PInkyStarfish · 12/08/2025 12:38

You can make a fragrance last longer on your wrists by applying a layer of Vaseline and then the perfume on top as well as spraying hair not neck where perfume is more likely to evaporate.

catsmother · 12/08/2025 13:04

I'm sure the longevity of Jo Malone has significantly reduced since the actual Jo Malone sold her business - and name. Twenty years or more ago, for example, I wore Lime, Basil & Mandarin, French Lime Blossom, one with Honeysuckle in its name (can't remember) and occasionally Pomegranate Noir. All of these lasted longer and seemed to have more depth, despite being 'fresher' scents, with the exception of Pomegranate Noir which was practically bullet proof.

Recently, I have used Wood Sage & Seasalt, and Orange Blossom - both lovely, but so ridiculously light. More akin to a body spray than anything yet the whole brand still sells itself as luxury at luxury prices I feel are unfair. The Covent Garden store has security on the door ... I guess to control numbers inside a relatively small but attractive shop but it feels like Emperor's new clothes really; people queueing to enter this cult status place with terrible value for money IMO. I was also gifted Lime, Basil and Mandarin a while ago; classic scent but I'm convinced its formula has been changed for the worse though can't quite put my finger on it ... still 'nice' but nowhere close to as lovely as I remember it.

Having said all that, I've found that Jo Malone's (the person) Jo Loves range is longer lasting. Red Roses and Lemon Leaves definitely lasts all day on me.

Other perfumes which last well for me are Escentric Molecules - the original 01 and the mandarin - despite many people being nose blind to it. You get wafts of fragrance throughout the day and it certainly sticks well to clothes. Experimentum Crucis (ELDO) has staying power and elicits lots of compliments. I also rate Sana Jardin and have been very impressed by how long each scent remains on your skin. I find Hermes Eau de Merveilles Bleu - though very light and fresh (and along Wood Sage & Seasalt to my nose) - has good longevity, as does Jour d'Hermes.

Unfortunately, like practically every other bloody thing you can think of lately, I think a lot of corners are being cut in the perfume world with quality much reduced in so many lines.

catsmother · 12/08/2025 13:10

Oh .... and to add to the theme, beware Maison Margiela - another brand with great scents but (mostly) terrible longevity. The only exception I've found is By The Fireplace.

Of course we'd all like perfume to 'stick' for more than an hour or so to feel we've got our money's worth but rather than continously reapply premium perfume my recommendation - particularly for lighter fresher summery scents - is the Korres range. This doesn't last forever either (though slightly better than Jo Malone IMO) but you don't mind topping up as much when it's much less expensive.

GameOfJones · 12/08/2025 13:17

I won't buy Jo Malone perfume anymore after finding it has absolutely zero staying power on me. It's a pity because I love some of the scents but they're such a waste of money. I actually find the Aldi dupes of Pomegranate Noir etc last better and they are about £5!

A PP mentioned 80s perfumes.... I still wear Opium sometimes and that lasts like nothing else. A bottle has lasted me a couple of years and is still going strong because I need very little.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 12/08/2025 14:16

First bottle did have staying power, those of late no. Won't be buying from the brand again. Typical luxury brand approach of up the price and dump the quality!

swampwitch0 · 12/08/2025 14:17

Nope.
I call them No Malone!

PurpleChrayn · 12/08/2025 14:20

They don’t last 5 minutes. The Aldi dupes are better.

CarmellaSopranosKitchen · 12/08/2025 14:25

I bought an organge blossom (?) one some years ago at the airport - zero staying power - shame as gorgeous. The candles I feel have a very heavy scent that does last .

AncientBallerina · 12/08/2025 16:09

It depends on the fragrance- the orange marmalade lasts as does the pomegranate noir. So do the ‘men’s’ ones although they are all meant to be unisex.
Blackberry and bay doesn’t last but I still love it. It’s lovely and fresh so good for summer.
Shame about the raspberry ripple - it smells lovely and the branding was wonderful!

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 12/08/2025 16:20

Jo Malone honeysuckle and davana lasts really well on me but any other not so much. I’ve gone back to wearing perfumes like opium and obsession. Sadly my favourite is poison but that’s run out so I’ll have to wait for a new bottle. I need to start dropping hints 😉

CarrieMoonbeams · 12/08/2025 16:32

I spray it on my hair rather than my skin, which IMO does help the scent to linger ... a bit! I'm just finishing a bottle of the Basil and Neroli, which I love but I won't be buying another.

Interesting that a PP mentioned the Vilhelm Parfumerie because that's what I'll be going back to. Definitely more expensive but I never needed to reapply it during the day, so it's probably much of a muchness. I used Darling Nikki, it's lovely.

Londontown12 · 12/08/2025 17:01

I tried them in store on Saturday within 30 mins couldn’t hardly smell them that’s twice I’ve tried them ! What a rip off x x
