Bra recommendations for 38G that lift and don't create back bulges

Is such a thing in existence?

I have lost weight recently, from everywhere except my chest area it seems. Wearing an underwire bra, I looked in the mirror and my chest looks really low and the back looks lumpy. I need something that lift, minimises, doesn't dig in and would be comfortable to wear all day.

Thanks

I am the same size and wear the Fantasie Rebecca style, although it does not minimise (i’d be interested in one that did), it is very comforable.

Ugh, the back bulge struggle is SO real. First off – congrats on the weight loss! Though I feel you on the ‘why won’t the girls shrink?!’ frustration 😅

These have saved my sanity (and silhouette):
Elomi Matilda – The gold standard for lift without dig. Side support panels hoist everything forward (no more ‘low rider’ boobs), and the back is wide enough to smooth things out.

Panache Envy – Like a gentle hug for your back fat. The stretch lace top stops that ‘quad-boob’ line under clothes.

Sculptresse by Panache (Esther) – Extra wide bands that actually lay flat – no sausage casing effect.

Pro tips from years of trial/error:
🔹 Go for 4+ hooks – More coverage = less bulge
🔹 Side boning is magic for keeping everything front-and-center
🔹 Avoid ‘minimizer’ styles – They just squash sideways and make back bulges worse!

Fitting tip: If your band feels tight but cups gap, go down a band size but up a cup (e.g., 36GG). Changed my life!
Hope you find your unicorn bra – it’s out there, I promise! 💪(And if you do, report back… we all need these recs!)

Another issue is how expensive bras are. I cannot afford to spend £44 to £70 on a bra that is uncomfortable so I only wear it once.

I'm looking for something that is very soft and comfortable, I am less worried about what it looks like. A comfortable bralette style that gives lift for large cup sizes would be perfect.

@1apenny2apenny I don't like minimisers that make a shelf and push boobs sideways either.

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads your recommendation looks like a Debenhams Gorgeous bra that has been discontinued.

@youdon they look comfortable.

Thanks @Sabrina911 I appreciate your recommendations. You've really set out what I need. I could wear any of these for an evening for sure.

Back fat lumpiness is caused by bras not fitting well. To get the necessary support, bras tend to be really uncomfortable.

I thought it was if your band feels tight and the cups gape - go up a band size and down a cup size.

Why would you get an even tighter band size if the one you are trying is on tight?

Tcateh · 10/08/2025 16:59

What do you measure under bust around ribs.
For me I like Fantasie bras, Helena specifically.
Normally get them on eBay or bra sites.

Disclaimer used to be a bra fitter at Rigby and Peller yonks back.

Fantasie was the cheapest bra we did and extremely well made

Tcateh · 10/08/2025 17:02

Oh hang on I wear Fantasie belle, in the balcony.
It's not too balcony. You could try the full cup too, but I prefer mine to point forward a bit 😀

RickertyRocker · 10/08/2025 17:35

Just measured myself @Tcateh I'm just under 38" I have on a M&S 40G on the second hook. The cup fits but is sits lower than I like. It isn't too tight but there is a hint of back fat. It is not comfortable, the wire digs in on my cleavage.

Ahh, bra math is so confusing.. right? 😅 .. When cups gape, its often because the band is too big (so the whole bra shifts around, making cups sit weirdly). A tighter band anchors everything in place, while going up a cup keeps the same volume.

Example:
➡️ If 38G feels tight but gaps at the cups, try 36GG (same cup volume, snugger band)
➡️ Only go up a band (e.g 40FF) if the band alone feels tight when hooked upside down (without cups in play)
It’s wild... but I learned this at a Bravissimo fitting .. changed everything! (RIP my old drawer of 40DDs that never worked

Is bra sizing so confusing that you state you have a different random large bra size in every thread you comment on?

The Panache Envy balconette bra is my favourite, quite tight on the band but great nevertheless.

It’s ok 😉 I only checked as I’d done a bra fitting post on one of the Mounjaro threads recently, it was very in depth so when I read your post I immediately thought of the posters I must have confused on that thread.

chowmeinz · 11/08/2025 12:55

I really rate Ann summers sexy lace planet padded plunge - they are less then £20 each and I have been wearing them for years

CointreauVersial · 11/08/2025 13:35

I like the M&S Shape Define bras (there are a few styles) - they have a specially designed back section which really helps to minimise the bulge.

CrotchetyQuaver · 11/08/2025 14:15

I'd suggest going in person to a good bra place that has plenty of large cup bras in stock and (hopefully) buying the one that you and the bra fitter think is the best fit. Don't bother with M&S. then look on eBay/vinted for others the same. Plenty of lingerie outlets on eBay and of course people who buy online and then don't get round to returning in time.
personally I rate Fantasie bras and have found the sizing very consistent across the styles. They also wash very well in the machine, but I always air dry them. some of mine are years old now but still doing the job.
