Help with wedding outfit for someone with not much idea about what’s appropriate

Following on from an earlier thread … I've been invited to my partner’s nephew’s wedding in mid- September in Northumberland.

I’m 68 and a size 14-16. I have never worn skirts or dresses apart from a couple of weddings and felt like I was in drag all day and very self-conscious. I have short silver hair. Would something like this be okay to wear or is it too office? Thanks for your advice. I really don’t mind if you say it’s not suitable but I haven’t got anyone in RL to ask.

I think a suit is fine, but would you be willing to try a lighter colour suit ? Or even just a more colourful suit ?

To me, that does look a bit like office wear.

I think that's great for an autumn Northumbrian wedding. What would you wear underneath it? Have you got shoes/boots that would work?

To my mind trouser suits are wonderful wedding wear - particularly if noticeably seasonal (linen in summer; velvet in winter, say) and in a cut and colour that’s flattering to the wearer. Obvious bonus points if the suit does not look like something one might wear to work.

So … Are you thinking of this particular suit, or looking more generally? Would you be open to considering one that looks a tiny bit more festive? (That colour is quite hard on the eye.)

It's lovely @Bertha1924 but rock it up a bit. Less grey definitely and silver hair loves citrus and even pastels. Look happy! Have a great day full of confidence and strut it out.

In autumn colours, like burgendy then add gold shoes, that would look really rich autumn colours. Or....you could go for a beautiful velvet suit, again in autumn colours?
