My mum had a perfume in the 1980s that she can’t find anything information on. She thinks it was called something like ‘Improvove’. Can anyone help?

Intimate? A very raunchy perfume but discontinued.

Meripenopause · 30/07/2025 20:58

Imprevu (by Coty) maybe.

Thanks @FictionalCharacter- I found a picture of that but she said . She may have made it up!

No help but this has made me smile remembering a similar situation with my mum. She told me her favourite perfume was called something like Yegrette. I went all over London looking for it, eventually found it by the description of the smell and bottle, it was just called “Y”. Good luck

Well done @Meripenopause- you have it! She is made up and vindicated as she has gone on about it for years!

Yeah this has been me! She has spoken about it on and off over the years and no one ever found it. She mentioned it today and I thought of anyone can find it will be someone on Style and Beauty!

I remember Y perfume by YSL. It was pronounced "Eee Grek" as i recall. Really nice had a bottle that looked a bit like a champagne bottle.

Gridhopper · 31/07/2025 07:09

YSL still make Y, it’s a fragrance ‘for men’ - my son has it. They used to do Yvress ‘for women’ which was called Champagne before that.

not relevant to the OP (glad you found your mum’s fragrance!), but I love this hunting for forgotten perfumes game!

Great catch! I was racking my brain because I was sure there was one starting with "Imp...." but just couldn't get it.

I've still got a bottle of the original Champagne. Unfortunately, I can't wear it as brings me out in a rash and makes me breathless - like lots of the old formulation YSL ones. Such a shame because it's lovely.

@NatWestPigFamilyThe letter Y in French is igrek so your Mum was right!
