Christening is tomorrow. Would rather not post pictures, but the outfit I was planning on wearing, I have just realised is now too small for me and I’m in a mad panic.

I have a cream midi length, floaty satin skirt which is cream and black. Can I wear this with a plain black fitted t-shirt? I really am stuck for options, but not sure a t-shirt of any sorts is really appropriate for the occasion.

Ive spent the last few days sorting my children’s clothes and just assumed mine would be okay. 😢

I don’t see why not! The last christening I went to was v mixed some people very dressed up and some very casual!

pizzaHeart · 19/07/2025 19:26

Are you worried about it being too casual or too black ?

A bit of both, I think. Definitely on the casual side. I would wear nice jewellery to hopefully dress it up. The thing is, I’d get away with wearing this to work. I think it’s also that the lovely navy and cream dress I had expected to wear, is now off the table and it’s thrown me off!

It sounds fine. Christenings are not like weddings.

DappledThings · 19/07/2025 19:34

Absolutely fine. Why on earth would it not be. People will be in a mix of formality or not. There are no concepts of inappropriate colours at Christenings.

The thing is, I’d get away with wearing this to work.
No idea why this is considered a bad thing

ApolloandDaphne · 19/07/2025 19:39

Sounds fine. If you are not sure have you any other dresses or maybe wide leg trousers and a top?

Screamingabdabz · 19/07/2025 19:42

If it’s in an Anglican Church during a normal Sunday service, most people will be wearing ordinary clothes including jeans.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 19/07/2025 20:12

Is this your baby or are you a guest?

AdaColeman · 19/07/2025 20:17

What you've described will be fine for a christening, especially if, as you say, you will wear some nice jewellery to dress the outfit up a little.

I think you will be ok, maybe get a nice jewellery as PPs mentioned if possible. It’s summer time so you need something light but as it’s a church you need something with more coverage so tshirt actually ticks both boxes.
I know what you mean about black but look at it as a muted and respectful colour scheme.

Hope all went well @Songsing
