As in title, preferably not too expensive and not matte. I've been told Maybelline fit me is good.

Do I need a powder over it?

If you don't want colour I'm wondering if a blurring primer would do what you wanted.
Disclaimer, I am mostly hopeless with makeup.

Could you recommend one?

I’d say think about a primer op, I love Aimee Connolly or glossier

Which one do you use? There seem to be so many and they're quite expensive so I don't want to buy the wrong one. I can't get to a store to try it out, so I'm trying to work out which shade using chatgp.

It’s this one, the shade is birch. I’m quite pale, a wee bit freckly in the summer 😬
The sales assistant said to apply with my finger/s as the warmth of the skin makes go on more easily than a sponge/brush. I’ve found that to be true.
I honestly wouldn’t be without it now!

I don’t normally have any issues with makeup but il makiage made my eyes water constantly when I was wearing it so pretty useless really as my makeup was running all over my face

DanceMumTaxi · 18/07/2025 22:03

The L’Oréal bb creme that is white when it come out the tube, then adjusts to your skin tone as it changes, is surprisingly good.

ComputerSciMum · 18/07/2025 22:07

No 7 intelligent colour.

It's very light, good for in summer when soon tone might be slightly darker and it matches exactly.

Sometimes i use it alone (in summer when powder can seem too much) or with powder to set in winter.

Hi OP,
I use this primer and think it’s great- I’ve linked a travel sized one so you could maybe try that to see if you like it. I mix a blob of this with a blob of my regular foundation (Estee Lauder double wear) on the back of my hand and apply with a beauty blender makeup sponge. It’s gives a nice soft glow and mixed with foundation gives a light glowy coverage which has been perfect with all the warm weather!

OP, did you order the erborian 5ml tubes? Did you also pick some of the little sample sachets? I found my preferred shade and formula through those little sachets.

I always put powder over the top as find the finish a bit shiny for me. Use Charlotte Tilbury powder.

another that didn’t get on with Erborian, I’m an outlier on mn, I hated it cosmetics too!

Me too ,IT cosmetics was awful as was Eborian. I use Double Wear Sheer.

Oneandahalfonagoodday · 19/07/2025 00:29

I like Sarah Chapman’s Skin Insurance. It goes on lovely and just makes it look like your natural skin but better, iykwim. Also has spf so great all round product.

IDontHateRainbows · 19/07/2025 07:32

I have decent skin to start , but I've done away with foundation completely. I use a MAC primer and follow up with givenchy prisme libre powder. It's the most beautiful powder gives a lovely subtle glow

Comes in a range of colors for different skin tones, that mix together. Don't be put off by the colors in the box! They are very bright/ weird when you first see them , one of the quadrants is green for example, but blend imperceptibly on the skin.

Pickled21 · 19/07/2025 07:43

I use the Laura mercier tinted moisturiser blurred matte spf30. It is in a black tube. I did go into store to match. I know you have said you can't get to a store but unless it's an urgent purchase so you won't get to a store before then I would try. if you don't have much experience with makeup a sales associate will be able to help.

SoScarletItWas · 19/07/2025 07:46

SiobahnRoy · 17/07/2025 20:25

L’Oréal nude plumping tinted serum👌🏼

This is the correct answer.

OP it is lightweight but blurring and a teeny bit glowy and will give you the effect you’re after without looking or feeling like a mask.

If you want more coverage, try the True Match foundation.

IL MAKIAGE!!

I have used this for years but recently I have found am getting an orange tinge, it’s like they changed something!

EnglishGirlApproximately · 19/07/2025 08:08

I actually get on much better with the L'Oréal BB cream than Erborian, which feels a little drying on my skin. Il Makiage I really think you can see. The L'Oréal just looks like me bit a bit smoother!

BloomingGardens · 19/07/2025 08:13

I use the original Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser Natural Skin Perfector SPF30 in OW1 (I'm very pale) and have done for years. It doesn't look like makeup, just a brighter complexion, a bit more awake.

Namechangedforspooky · 19/07/2025 08:17

I like the DRMTLGY tinted moisturiser. I can’t wear foundation either as I get older but this sits really nicely and just gives me a bit of a glow

Oh no, I just realised it's discontinued and replaced by the dewy one. Anyone previously use OW1 and know the match in the new shades?

bloodredfeaturewall · 19/07/2025 08:22

garnier anti age bb cream

Notellinganyone · 19/07/2025 08:28

After much, expensive, experimentation I’ve hit on the following combination. Elf Halo Glow followed by Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser Light revealer, some Beauty Pie under eye colour corrector and their Cream blush blended on top. It makes me look years younger (I’m 58).

Quirkswork · 19/07/2025 08:29

I used to love Erborian but I think it's too flat for summer. I can't stand the ubiquitous word "glow" but that's what I try and go for these days, so no foundation. Instead Ive been using Maybelline 4 in 1 primer thing. And then concealer. I think covering up skin is aging after a certain age and some tinted moisturisers are a bit heavy or flat.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 19/07/2025 09:12

@Notellinganyonei tried a sample of Elf Halo Glow recently and liked it but subsequently forgot, thanks for the reminder! Generally love Elf stuff, great quality for the price.

I heard Chanel les beiges water-fresh tint does this. I have sneakily smeared it on when going through duty free on holiday.

Has anyone else tried it?

Otherwise, the closest i have got to the bare-skin-like foundation is a very light layer of l'oreal true match. Sometimes i mix it with some shimmer stuff and moisturiser. I also put it on with a brush. That makes it lighter too.

I agree with L'Oréal True Match.
It's seamless, almost invisible, but covers mild blemishes. I love it.
I sometimes add a dab of IT Cosmetics CC cream overpigmented blemishes that are showing through.

I have tried loads of foundations and these two are great.

cannyvalley · 19/07/2025 14:23

I really like L’Oreal true match. It has a dropper type application, and is very runny . Goes on like a serum and melts into my skin. You can just use a teeny bit , or build up layers if you want more coverage. I find it very natural looking and not matte or drying. It’s not super expensive either. Make sure you shake the bottle before using as it seems to separate a bit.
