What else might she like? What are teenage girls wearing trainer-wise at the moment?

Have you looked on Vinted? You might be able to pick up some superstars on there. What size is she? If she’s a 5.5 or smaller, then look at children’s ranges as they are cheaper.
Otherwise, I think it’s a question of asking her what matters to her. Would she rather have branded trainers but a cheaper style (eg gazelles) or would she rather have a high street knock off?

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 15/07/2025 12:19

I very much doubt she would prefer the knock off. She wants the superstars. You give x towards them and she saves for the rest. Having the wrong brand is not what you want as a teen

RachelsPeeves · 15/07/2025 12:23

Vinted as above - I still have nightmares from being bought Nicks trainers instead of Nike...

TheBossOfMe · 15/07/2025 12:27

Agree re not buying something different, my parents always did that and I always hated the alternatives. Vinted, or money towards and she can earn/save the rest

Followthebouncingthumb · 15/07/2025 12:40

I got mine new with tags for £30 off Vinted. Rare find but always worth the hunt.

dontforgetme · 15/07/2025 12:42

Definitely try vinted. Some absolute bargains on there.

Tcateh · 15/07/2025 12:43

What size is she?

DyslexicPoster · 15/07/2025 12:44

Outlet or Vinted. I got dd some Nike air max from Vinted for under £5.

byebyemrpumpkinpie · 15/07/2025 12:45

Thank you all!

Just to reassure, I'm not looking to buy imitations 😂. I, too, have trauma memories of these from my childhood ("Mike"s and hideous own-brand green flash in my case...).

I was wondering which other kinds of trainers altogether are popular with teen girls. For instance, there are some cheaper Air Jordans around (but she doesn't want these any more). Wondered what the current trends are for teens?

Second vinted! I've had some absolute bargains on there.

Also I'm a 5.5 so often buy from the kids... Especially the novelty ones 🤣🤣

byebyemrpumpkinpie · 15/07/2025 12:46

Will definitely try Vinted

She is size 5.5 so kids is a great idea. Yeti-footed myself, so this hadn't occurred to me....

I would expect the teenager to be involved here, they usually know what they want. Give her a budget and get her to do her research.

Bit complicated, because she kind of needs to be forced into new shoes. She's had her current ones for over 3 years (wearing them every single day), they're completely falling apart and she won't stop wearing them. But she needs to wear something a bit less hideously bashed-up for work experience.... after weeks of nagging she finally said she might wear some Superstars - and I dicover they cost about £150....

Starlight1984 · 15/07/2025 12:57

Also have a look on Depop....

WookieMama · 15/07/2025 12:58

They had them in the END clothing sale for about £65, try there.

Shenmen · 15/07/2025 12:58

DD wanted some ridiculously expensive shoes. Agreed I would pay the normal amount for a pair of trainers and she would get a job and pay the rest. She was 14 and found a job washing up.

emsyj37 · 15/07/2025 13:02

Since when have Superstars been £150??? Is it a specific special-edition pair that she's after? I have a pair that I paid full price £80 for a couple of years ago, they can't have gone up that much!! I wanted the full white with white stripes and I couldn't get them cheaper so I paid the full whack, and to be fair they are so comfortable that I didn't feel like I'd been robbed!
If she doesn't have very specific requirements about colour, you should be able to get a pair of Superstars easily for a lot less than £150. I recently bought a pair of adidas Sambas from Vinted for £30 brand new in the box, so it's worth a try.

As others have said, Vinted. Dd bought brand new, boxed, tagged Adidas Sambas (adult size) for £10 a few months ago. Don’t buy new.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 15/07/2025 14:21

£54.07 here new

byebyemrpumpkinpie · 15/07/2025 14:45

Trying Vinted, but even there, the new ones are nearly £90....
