Beach/resort holiday bag and other things I might’ve forgotten

I’m going on a beach holiday next week and starting to think about packing.

I’ve been focused on finding a good beach bag and now I’m wondering about a bag for evening, and other accessories. I’ve not been on a beach holiday for years and I feel I’ve forgotten what I like/want to have with me.

We’re staying in a resort with breakfast and dinner included (choice of 4 restaurants). It’s a small tropical island with no cultural/sightseeing things to do; it’s all about the beach and water sports and some gentle hiking.

I think I’m sorted for clothes but what kind of bag would be best for evenings? A normal leather handbag would be too heavy/formal but most of my smaller evening-type bags are very dressy.

And does anyone have other ideas for accessories or things I might not have remembered beyond shorts, tshirts, swimwear, lightweight dresses and sandals?

Ideas welcome, thank you!

It doesn't sound as though you'll be going out in the evenings so perhaps a small, soft clutch bag? I've a gold and a silver one (depending on jewellery) that does the trick. Monsoon/Accessorise have a good choice and a sale!

Rafia or small straw bag? One made of natural material anyway for evening.

I think your list is fine already. Just keep things simple and non stressy as you are on hols. A hat maybe. I like to wear some jewellery like earrings and a chain when sunbathing these days.

As PP suggested, a raffia / straw clutch or small bag. I’ve had one for years I used every holiday, it goes with everything and doesn’t look to “done up” or formal. Usually you don’t need much in your bag on this type of hol - phone, hotel room key, lipstick etc, it’s not like you’re far from your room.

(I have a big straw bag I use day and night now as I have a toddler & need mountains of stuff even just at dinner 😂)

Thanks so much, something small and soft does sound right and I love both those straw/woven ones. I’m kicking myself as I bought one in Spain several years ago and gave it to my niece last year as I never used it. Damn!

Now I’ve got an idea what to search for; thanks!

Oh and also you say lightweight dresses but some cover ups would be good. If it's really hot you just want something very lightweight in light cotton or viscose even. I actually think H&M do well on this. Or places like Monsoon. No need to be expensive. And I have single strap sliders like the EVA Birkenstocks in white(or other colour) for the pool area as they are plastic so it doesn't matter if they get wet.

If it’s a buffet restaurant take something you can wear cross body so you don’t have to leave your valuables on the table when going for food.
packing list:
sunbed towel pegs
rash vest if there’s water sports (saves your shoulders getting burnt and more pleasant to wear a buoyancy aid over the top)
beach shoes
inflatable pillow for the sunlounger
flipflop / sliders
swimming goggles
mask & snorkel?
inflatable ring / pool toys if you’re going with kids
waterproof phone case

Great ideas, thanks all. I think cross-body is a good shout @MiddleAgedDread as I’m sure one of the restaurants is buffet. Hadn’t even considered a sun lounger pillow or towel pegs - are the pegs just in case of wind?

@FuzzikinsPompombum they save your towel blowing away when you're in the pool or stop them sliding down your back. They're a few quid on amazon.
