One new outfit for London sightseeing

First off yes, I can wear whatever I want and I know people in London wear all sorts of clothes, as I’ve been there plenty of times.

Now that’s out of the way, I’m thinking about my upcoming London trip. It’s me and a teen boy and we won’t be anywhere stylish really but I haven’t bought any new summer clothes so I thought I’d ask what’s one new outfit you’d buy for this trip? It’s in a couple of weeks and the weather looks warm but hopefully not heatwave.

I’m 45, 5 foot 4, size 8/10 and quite toned from weights so arms/legs are good! Current outfits are wide legged lightweight black trousers, bias cut flowery midi with a t-shirt, barrel jeans, a seersucker striped maxi dress from last year, navy tailored shorts and a striped tee. Mostly with chunky sandals or fake Birks. I’ve been chucking a white linen shirt or a cream shacket on top. I like clothes that show my figure but not tight - can do a cropped top thanks to the workouts! So nothing madly boxy. I have straight hair past my shoulders and a classic English rose colouring. Budget - let’s say up to £100. Preferably cheaper but will pay for something that will last a few years.

A waistcoat to wear with either your tailored shorts or your jeans / trousers? Good selection here:

That’s a good call - I like the look of them but I’ve only physically seen them in cheaper shops so didn’t like the plastic buttons!

Decent footwear maybe?

Black midi tube or T-shirt dress and a new linen shirt to wear over it. Easy, takes you to most places and sounds like it would be a useful addition to your existing wardrobe.

Shorts!
It's stinking hot in London at the mo with no sign of abating, jeans will be horrid.
A shorts coord set?

I agree a waistcoat - maybe neutral colour wide leg trousers as well.

I’m not mad on solid black for me but maybe a dark olive or grey tube dress would work. I do like a t-shirt dress. Anyone have any decent quality recs or is this a cheap and cheerful job?

I do love the look of the neutral trousers but I am an extremely clumsy person and DS is tenfold so, so I’d immediately spill coffee/icecream/get dirty handprints on them.

Arket sometimes do nice T-shirt dresses. My tube dress is Marks and Sparks.
