Something to put on face on holiday not as thick as a foundation

SplatSplash · 05/07/2025 07:51

I'm lucky enough to be going on holiday next week. I don't want to wear my normal foundation but too old to go 'naked' facially.

Do I need an BB or CC cream. Not actually sure what they are though? Any recommendations please?

I put the Erborian CC/BB over a factor 50 sunscreen (a good mineral one like Ultra Violette preferably) and that works well for my dry, tending to redness, sun sensitive skin. That gives a bit of colour and good sun protection.

I like the Nivea tinted day cream for holidays. Super cheap and doesn’t feel too much

PuppyMonkey · 05/07/2025 16:29

Another vote for erborian CC. I used to always use it a few years ago then for some reason changed back to normal foundation (probably the price tbh) but recently rediscovered it. Can’t believe what I was thinking ditching it, my skin looks much better and it feels so lovely and light. You only need a little, it goes a long way!

ELF suntouchables is great. I've been using it on holiday this week.

SplatSplash · 05/07/2025 19:35

Thank you everyone. I don't wear anything (except SPF 50) during the day but need something in the evening. I'll have a proper look at all the suggestions. Thanks again.

Another vote for Erborian CC cream. It’s amazing. Get the smaller size to start and see if you like it. I have dry clean for the record, and it’s brilliant. There’s also CC Dull Correct (purple tube) and CC Red Correct (green tube) as well as the shades of the normal CC cream. It’s basically a blurring moisturiser with a bit of SPF in there too.

Edited

How do you rate the green and purple ones? I love the silver tube and have been using it for ages, but never tried the other ones.

BashfulClam · 05/07/2025 19:44

I use the L’Oréal bb cream. Evens my skin tone and is really light. Plus it’s not expensive and the tube is small for hand luggage.

Ultra voilette has a nice mineral sunscreen with a bit of a tint. If you are around Space NK go it and get a sample before buying though

I use Laura Geller powder foundation, it builds into whatever coverage you want, for me it does not move and is great in hot weather, the only thing that’s ever worked in hot conditions

Same for me - combo skin and it really has been the only thing that sticks and stays

It's an oldie but a goodie: Garner BB cream

Yes! I love this bb cream, use it all the time but I think it’s more suited to yellow undertones rather than pink as some people find it a bit orange otherwise.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 06/07/2025 00:33

I use a L’Oréal CC cream in the “ Nudista” range Really easy to blend in and the colour match is perfect Think it was £7
Tbh if it was a hot destination I would just wear sunscreen as make up would just slide off( well on me it does)

paristotokyo · 06/07/2025 06:50

Erborian cc cream definitely. Feels really light on the skin and just smoothes your skin tone. Shade clair if you’re pale. Try the travel tube. If you’ve got redness that you just want to blur, then their cc red correct in the green tube is amazing for this. You can sample
them at John Lewis if you’ve got one closeby

pilates · 06/07/2025 07:03

I use the Clinique Cityblock

digiwidgy · 06/07/2025 08:03

I use tinted unscreen. I used both L’Oréal and Garier versions. Both are factor 50.

ExplodingCarrots · 06/07/2025 08:39

Definitely the Nars radiant tinted moisturiser. It's also spf30 . Gives a little bit of coverage , lightweight and makes your skin look lovely on holiday .

TaranFollt · 06/07/2025 09:05

Unsure of your age, but I'm 50 and foundation ages me now.
I wear neal's yard beauty balm. Gives me a dewy glow and a hydrated look.
It's all about hydrating the skin at this age which includes actual water intake- but my skin feels softer now than years ago.
Also, neal's yard spf for face. I don't feel that I need foundation tbh.

Agree with the posters who said Hydratint by Sculpted by Aimee, I find it fantastic

I sampled some of this yesterday. The medium is too dark and the light is too light. I also thought it was too foundation like.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/07/2025 16:20

@SummertimeWTFery yep and reasonably priced too

Crikeyalmighty · 09/07/2025 16:22

@OopsieeDaisy I think that’s one reason I use it - kind of looks a bit like I’ve got a tan - I agree it’s a bit orangey

Pickled21 · 09/07/2025 19:31

I was in Morocco last week and used Laura mercier tinted moisturiser with spf 30. It was very lightweight but gave me a flawless, matte finish.

Onanotherhealthkick · 09/07/2025 20:16

I like Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser and also Maybelline skin tint which I bought from Tesco for about £10!!

IDontHateRainbows · 09/07/2025 20:19

I wear a primer then givenchy prisme libre loose powder in a medium/ tan shade very lightweight and skin looks glowy

Rarely bother with foundation this time of year

anyzen · 09/07/2025 20:29

I'm older now also, way older.... and just use a few brushes of Hawaiian Tropic mineral powder with SPF 50. It's brilliant for daytime. If going out at night I dab a bit of ahem... JML magic mineral foundation + a dab of powder blush, lip gloss and out I go!

Honestly, for me anything liquid or creamy just slides off my face in hot weather, mascara runs and gets in my eyes, so the bare minimum is fine for me. But each to their own. I do use Erborean at home in our cooler climate and find it good, but it's useless on me in the heat. Just my ten cents.
