Help with dress

Hi ladies. I have seen you do wonders for others and I hope you can help me as well. I have been invited to a lunchtime event at the House of Lords as a plus one.

I am a very casual dresser and never go to fancy places so all my wardrobe can offer is Jersey dresses. I am 46, wear size 20 and have large boobs and belly. I look best in yellow and pink. I have a foot problem which means I only wear trainers. My only formal shoes are a pair of plain black flats so whatever I choose, those are the shoes I will wear.

I am attaching some photos of the best candidates from my wardrobe - I am hopeless at accessories but perhaps one of them can be dressed up to do the job? If not, I am open to suggestions to buy something - preferably under £100. I strongly prefer natural fibres though I can get away with viscose.

Thanks in advance for your help!

P.S Apologies for the state of my room, I am mid-declutter.

That Uniqlo dress may work with a little jacket, I agree. It has a great swirl.

It's a great dress I have it in two colours

Thanks for this tip @Thingyfanding ! I got this dress today and worn with my new body, I don't recognise my figure. Not sure if it works for HoL but it will work for many other occasions.

I can't believe that's you.....wow!!!

You may find the thread worth reading, @Vitrolinsanity!

Yes I should have. It’s been a long day. May I say your user name is spot on.

MayIDestroyYou · 07/07/2025 21:37

Ouch ….

AprilShowers25 · 07/07/2025 22:11

@SpunkyKhakiScroller sorry for the delay - I’ve only just seen this.
You look amazing in the dress! I actually think it’s fine for HOL with a jacket (as others have suggested)

You look amazing in the Uniqlo dress and with nice shoes and jewellery I think it’s actually fine for your event. It’s understated and classy in the colour etc.

I also think that length of dress suits better than some of the shorter ones.

NoMoreStupidGuys · 08/07/2025 14:10

Are you sure you are a 20? All of those dresses look loose on you and you don't look a size 20. I am 14/16 and you are the same size as me.

cumbriaisbest · 08/07/2025 14:35

Finery all the way and a good price.

SpunkyKhakiScroller · 17/07/2025 10:34

I wanted to share what I look like on the day. Opted not to wear the body in the end but it doesn't make a lot of difference. Thanks again for all your help ladies!

BaldMouse · 17/07/2025 11:21

You look great. The dress and little cardigan look so elegant.

Hels20 · 17/07/2025 11:30

You look amazing OP! What a transformation! You look wonderful. Elegant and sophisticated. Love it!

MayIDestroyYou · 17/07/2025 11:39

I would definitely get that dress in every colour, if you can.

(Am I seeing a string of pearls?)

Hiddenmyname · 17/07/2025 12:40

OP, that dress looks fab on you. You have a waist! Don't hide it. Front drape means you can hide the meno belly but still emphasise your waist. Also cosider adding belts where appropriate. Belt wearing has revolutionised my wardrobe.

Wellretired · 17/07/2025 13:14

That looks so good. Enjoy.

Sunsetsandcocktails · 17/07/2025 13:58

You look fab OP!

BananaramaNananana · 17/07/2025 14:08

You look wonderful!

LondonMummer · 17/07/2025 14:23

I don’t often comment on these threads but you look absolutely beautiful in that dress. What a transformation from your initial pictures. Mumsnet is so toxic so much of the time but threads like this keep me here.

The outfit is absolutely perfect for your event. I hope it’s given you the confidence for a wardrobe overhaul. I suspect you will be glowing when you’re at the House of Lords. Walk tall. You look magnificent.

TokyoSushi · 17/07/2025 14:33

Well done OP, you've come a long way from where we first started - brilliant!

KPPlumbing · 17/07/2025 14:57

None of them, sorry! Especially if you have to wear black flats.

You've got a really decent shape and carry your weight well. You could look so much better in something more structured. And I'm DESPERATE for you to get a better bra that really hoists your boobs!
