Lightweight shorts for Greece in August

3isnotacrowd · 30/06/2025 12:36

I'm going island hopping in Greece in August with only 7kg of hand luggage and a small backpack.

I usually only wear denim shorts but they will be too hot and too heavy.

Please can I have some recommendations of lightweight women's shorts with coverage to at least mid way to the knee. I'm 51 and a size 12 to 14 but have fat thighs and really short shorts look stupid on me.

lightweight shorts from Regatta These any good? They're in the sale at the mo in lots of different colours. Breathable fabric and not obviously "walking/technical" shorts

Ooh thanks I'll take a look.

I'll only wear them for this holida lol so I don't want to pay too much money.

These are lovely, quite wide and “skirt” looking, very light. The £15 ones shown in brown are similar but a bit shorter and come in more colours

I'm currently wearing board shorts from Decathlon and they feel like I'm not wearing anything.

I've just looked and they are way to short for me. I have awful cellulite and can't stand showing it in really short shorts

Try Uniqlo. They have some gingham seersucker ones that look cool.

Would a skirt suit you better, I wonder?
I got some bloke shorts recently.

In a charity shop.
Long, with pockets, awesome !!

I'd love a skirt but my thighs rub together and in that heat would be uncomfortable. I've looked at a skort but they all look so ugly 😬

I've just started another thread, because I'm looking for comfortable cotton shorts which are also a bit longer in the leg, so watching this thread with interest!!

@Nothungrycat(great name btw) the M&S £25 poplin shorts I posted are longer in the leg - the £15 are shorter and have more colours. They are super flattering and comfortable on - I would normally wear an elasticated waist but these don’t bunch up and make me look fat. They are generously sized too.

I have these and they are lovely and light. I also have a pair of linen mix shorts form H&M. Neither were very expensive.

I have these in several colours and patterns from h&M
A large is loose on me as a 14-16 bottom
