Recommendations for at home nails, are dips any good?

Hi thanks for reading. I am a retired nurse and loved going to the salon since retirement to have gel nails done (not allowed when I was working!) Anyway the salon I go to has just become VAT registered and is passing on the full cost to the clients..I have seen the cost go from Just over £30 to £43.50 in just over a year, so I have decided to do my own nails and am looking for recommendations. I keep seeing these dip powder nails advertised, are they any good? My nails have never been particularly strong so I am worried that just nail varnish may not be good enough for me. Advice please ladies!

Sassy Saints ruined my nails. I wouldn't recommend this brand. First time they were great, second and third were awful and made my nails sore with the buffing.

I really like sassy saints. Haven’t ruined my nails at all. I think it’s pretty easy to do and I’m glad I did. I’ve been using them for about a year. But I do take big breaks sometimes when I cba.

Also their customer service is excellent. I had a tiny problem and they sorted it straight away!!

Has anyone got any other suggestions? Thank you

Does it have to be dip nails? I use mylee gel nail kit and get pretty good results from it.

I really like the glamrdip brand. Dip nails are time consuming but now I have become better at it, I do enjoy it

I got Glamrdip and Im kind of on the fence about it

Bloody time consuming and messy

A lot of filing required

But it does last well

What Ive tried this time around is just wearing two clear coats to get the strength and Im going to gel them the colour I fancy later today

I tried SNS powder at a salon before buying a kit, twice. Once to see how much skill was needed to apply and the second to see how hard it was to remove. It confirmed that I would not be able to DIY. But I love the result and it is way less harsh on my natural nails than shellac. So I go to the salon every 2-3wks.

I have just bought the mylee gel kit as although I get my nails done at a salon I don’t want to pay salon prices for my toes and can’t be waiting the time for normal polish to dry. First attempt tonight and I am so impressed!

I use sassy saints dip powders. I find they last longer than the gel polish I used to get.
Yes it takes longer but you’re not having to stick your hand in the machine all the time which used to sting the tips of my fingers. Or pay a fortune each time.
I do mine watching the tv, it gets easier and quicker each time. I’ve been doing them since the end of last year and none of my nails have broken, i just file them. I get 2 or 3 weeks out of them.

I use HolyGels gel wraps - much easier than dips or gel polish. They go on like a sticker, then you put them under the LED lamp and they set like gel polish - mine last up to 3 weeks normally. They are much easier to take off and don’t damage your nails at all.

I use one of those too, really easy & lasts well. Sometimes I put a pale colour on & then if I fancy a change just paint over the top with regular nail polish, so no lamp. Then if you want a change of colour just remove the top ordinary polish & redo. If you use a gentle non acetate remover, I use the Cutex buy cheap in Asda, it doesn’t disturb the Mylee gel polish underneath.
