Cult British beauty products for a gift

I need help. I'm looking for gift ideas for my sister in the States, who is very much an Anglophile expecting me to bring back something amazing. I want to gift her something very quintessentially British, possibly a cult "find" AND a fab beauty product that works. I myself am usually an ogre in daily life and know nothing of this subject beyond Olay face cream at Boots. She's a lady of discerning tastes, unlike me. Any ideas?

Hmm. Maybe a perfume by Penhaligon, Miller Harris or Jo Malone?

Charlotte Tilbury is British - her Flawless Filter is a bit of a cult product. Same for the Liz Earle cleanser. Or Neom oils. But not sure if they are quintessentially British.

Not what you asked for but how about some Vivienne Westwood jewellery or other accessory… not a beauty product but ticks the quintessentially British and cult boxes

Love “I myself am usually an ogre” 😆

Treatingmyself · 29/06/2025 22:31

Charlotte Tilbury magic cream

BeCalmNavyDreamer · 29/06/2025 22:32

I don't buy fancy brands but these come to mind

Superdrug Vitamin E Hot Cloth Cleanser
Body Shop Hemp hand cream

ByTheNine · 29/06/2025 22:34

Elemis is a British brand and their Pro-Collagen Marine Cream might fit the bill.

BeCalmNavyDreamer · 29/06/2025 22:35

To add...

Beauty Kitchen are good too...fancier stuff.
And Lush bath bombs too

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 29/06/2025 22:37

Something from Floris?

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 29/06/2025 22:41

I love the Floris shop on Jermyn Street.

Jamesblonde2 · 29/06/2025 22:42

Sorry OP not British, but cult classic is Chanel Rouge Noir nail varnish, from the 90s and still THE colour in the autumn. Worn by Uma in Pulp Fiction.

MorrisZapp · 29/06/2025 22:43

Astral cream. Total cult.

LetItGo99 · 29/06/2025 23:00

I'm googling everything frantically. Perfume ideas and Floris sounds amazing - website has a walk linked to perfume, which might entice her to visit me soon.

Lush/Body shop has colonised the world and Elemis also easy for her to buy i think (haven't checked in post-tariff world). Astral cream more my kind of buy than hers...

Surely all these lux brands are available worldwide already or at least online. Maybe go retro - Ponds Cold Cream, Yardley etc.

Uricon2 · 29/06/2025 23:03

Clinique Black Honey lipstick/gloss

LetItGo99 · 29/06/2025 23:04

Ha yes, I could include retro in a gift bag for sure! Beauty kitchen sounds lovely, niche and with eco-credentials

Something from Yardley in rose or lavender would be beautiful and retro.

Defiantly41 · 29/06/2025 23:06

Floris, Penhaligon, Jo Malone, for fragrance

yardley soap (the lemon one)

Neals Yard face and body products are lovely

there is a Scottish soap brand often mentioned here- Arran or The Handmade Soap company?

A blast from the past but it seems Mary Quant still exists!

The Body Shop

Sounds like a perfect gift bag! Thank you.

Any ideas for makeup? Clinique she's got, any Brit bb creams I could include?

IT cosmetics are British and their BB cream is pretty highly rated. Or Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser but maybe that’s not cutting edge enough

minipie · 29/06/2025 23:12

Or Trinny BFF

LetItGo99 · 29/06/2025 23:17

Yes, would prefer it be something she hasn't heard of (yet) - IT cosmetics looks like a winner. Thank you.

LadyHester · 29/06/2025 23:20

Second Trinny London makeup or skincare.

LetItGo99 · 29/06/2025 23:27

Just realised Trinny is the woman from a makeover TV show I used to watch - previous stint in the UK. Is the brand actually good? Or a celebrity front?

IT cosmetics was famously set up by an American Jamie Kern-Lima and sold on to L'Oreal. Everyone in US have heard of it.

Oh sorry! It came up under a search for British beauty brands.. shows what google knows eh…
