What one thing makes someone look good on the beach

This isn’t about body shape or size!

I’m feeling a little more confident about my beach holiday this year and I have some thoughts on beach wear etc but I’m interested to know what others think makes people look good.

Sunglasses and a big hat. Crisp oversized cotton shirt as a cover up.

I always get a spray tan before I go on holiday. My H and kids are all dark skinned and I look transparent next to them. A tan always makes me feel better. I also think a well fitting bikini or swimsuit makes a difference. I tend to look at other women in am appreciate rather than judgemental way by nature, so I say to myself: ooh I like her swimsuit, or she’s got a nice tan. I think we are usually more worried about how we look than how others do.

A well fitted swimming costume or bikini. It doesn't matter what size you are as long as it fits and you don't have lumps and bumps squeezing out where they shouldn't.

A lovely pashmina type wrap, sparkly sandals and sunglasses provide a good finish too.

Confidence!
Someone who walks confidently with her head up will always look better than someone trying to hide their body by squirming about round the pool (like I do!)

Sunglasses, I hate the things so never wear them but I do like them on others.

I like string bikinis (no thongs). Classic and flattering on everyone.

Confidence!

Same as anywhere else - intentionality. Looking as if every element naturally fits with every other element - hair with jewellery with clothes with towel with basket with nail colour …

(I admit it’s probably easier to stay at home …)

A really nice floaty sarong.

unsync · 25/06/2025 17:56

Confidence. Own the space you are in.

RhaenysRocks · 25/06/2025 18:07

What most of the others said. I like a floaty loose dress thing with a bit of gold or silver light catching thread for a cover up when going for lunch or whatever.

louderthan · 25/06/2025 18:17

A spray tan is a good call!

CharlotteFlax · 25/06/2025 18:57

A tan and confidence!

The tan could be my issue as like a PP I am translucent. I’m not brave enough to experiment with a spray tan with my holiday so close so I’m practicing with the right dose of tanning drops so I can maintain a light glow whilst I’m away.

I love the big floppy hat and metallic trimmed accessories look on others but on my body type I look like I’m playing dress up. I lean towards a pop of colour, and then simple cuts like the white shirt.

@ANagsHead is right about everything working together. I’m really good at this day to day but the beach/pool throws my out of my comfort zone, not helped by the need to cover up to avoid burning. I had a beautiful patterned short cotton sarong delivered yesterday, so I think I’ll work my outfits around this and keep everything else simple.
