Outfit to wear for TV - help!

I have won something and am going to be interviewed by local TV / be on social media. I have seen how cruel people can be in the comments and would appreciate some Mumsnet fashion advice please.

I am 51 - size 18, have a huge menopause belly, 40DD boobs, wobbly arms and legs and I am 5 foot - so a weird shape. I can't wear heels and usually live in long sleeve or 3/4 sleeve Seasalt or Joules dresses and leggings for work and home.

All ideas appreciate - Thanks !

Starting with a few plain ish ones, stripes and some patterns are not great on screen - the Eda dress comes in other colours the patterned one is summery and subdued so should be ok

How exciting! Can you tell us what you’ve won?

I get interviewed for TV sometimes - a serious subject, and I’m not dissimilar in age and size to you. I wear a plain dress with collar or trousers with a blazer and plain cami.

My tip is to wear an extra layer of foundation than you’d normally wear.

I appear on TV sometimes, and am early 50s and a similar shape to you…
realistically it will mainly be your head and the top part of your body that’s seen, so I will quite often wear a plain dress/top with a nice scarf or necklace.
and a bit of make up helps too - even just a base, eyebrows and mascara, but a nice lipstick and blusher can really help brighten a face.
If you’ve not been on telly before it’s sometimes easy to get nervous and speak really fast, so maybe practice speaking slowly…

Can you offer some clarity? What do you mean by “won something”? Eg an award related to your career or education, or did you win a raffle?

If it’s professional/work-related, I would just wear something work-appropriate.

Are you wanting to find an outfit that hides your body or looks more flattering? Or just something trendy?

I generally think dressing in a bland manner would make you less susceptible to negative comments. I’m not saying you automatically would get negative comments, but just that I doubt anyone would comment if attention isn’t drawn to your outfit.

I'm 5ft and anything not specifically Petite does not sit right on shoulders / arms / waist. The follow The Petite Lady on Instagram as she shares lots of posts and links to outfits for all occasions.

Just as an aside, I would check the Boob or Bust online calculator to be sure you're wearing the right bra size. It makes such a difference.

I am so so sorry I didn't reply to all the amazing advice. I didn't receive notifications (my error) and thought no one had replied! I went with the blue dress someone suggested - filming tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder to check my shoes! Thank you so much again to everyone who replied
