First Toast purchases and I’m underwhelmed

I’ve been eyeing up Toast for a while but it’s always seemed very pricey but I’ve finally dived in.

One item didn’t suit me at all but the two dresses I bought are very very thin. I know they’re summer dresses but the linen is quite see through. What’s the point of a light summer dress if you have to wear a slip?

But looking at some of the reviews maybe I just got unlucky? Any experience on Toast summer linen please? I want to love it.

Their quality used to be incredible, I've got clothes from years ago that are still going strong, but it has massively declined recently.

Toast linen used to be great but it's been a few years since I've bought it new.

One thing I've noticed on their website this season is how many of their trousers have an elasticated waist. Now I don't dislike elasticated waists in principle but it's very a specific look, and I'm guessing they've moved more towards them because they're cheaper to manufacture than a fixed waistband.

So it wouldn't surprise me if their linen has gone more lightweight too.

Of course they're not the only retailer doing this and I'd guess their quality is still better than most of the high street - as it should be at those prices.

There's still a fair bit of second hand Toast around although people tend to sell rather than donate it as it holds its price pretty well.

I just don't get the appeal of Toast.
Who is their target market? The clothes looks droopy and sad, and don't even flatter the models.
Is it just me? 🤔

I've also got 15 year old Toast linen pieces that are still gorgeous, but I have noticed a huge decline in quality as well. I purchased a pair of cotton jersey trousers for wfh with an elasticated waist as pp said - £130. They were washed at 30 degrees (as it's the temp at which I wash everything except towels and bedding) and still shrank by a couple of inches. I ended up agreeing to a 10% refund rather than a return, but since then the elasticated waist has become twisted and now they hang weirdly. I've had more wear out of my M&S jersey that was about 20% of the price!
