Any hairdressers around? Hair dye patch test question

Hi, my daughter wants to dye her hair red for prom. Bought a semi permanent dye, and even though the box doesn't say to do patch test we did one anyway. After washing off the area is red, but is this stain from the dye or a reaction? There's no itching or stinging, just red! So confused!

It's just a stain from the dye and will wear off. I do my own hair with semi permanent black dye and have this issue when it inevitably gets on my skin. It wears off after a few days so I'd colour her hair the week before prom to give time for any that's has gotten onto her skin to oxidize away

The box doesn’t suggest you do one for good reason

it will just stain the skin

Not permanently of course!

Thank you, I feel reassured now!

Put Vaseline all around her hairline top and back as near to the hair as possible then the dye won’t tint the skin.

I’m allergic to Ppda which is in most permanent colours so patch test every hair colour. I always put a sample behind my ear or in elbow crease for around 45 minutes then rinse and if I haven’t reacted within 48 hours then it’s good to use. The reaction I get is an itchy, red, raised rash not just stained skin. Hope this helps, take a look a the Schwarzkopf website to ensure it doesn’t need to be left on longer 😊

FYI live xl Red is not semi, a nightmare to get out. Be warned.
