It's too late to buy something, I'm going to have to wear whatever I can pull together but do you think the following will be ok?
Funeral of older relative. No dress code. I want to dress appropriately and be comfortable but look good.
I have a longish black short sleeved button through dress that I bought for a funeral last summer. It's too big for me (I've lost a stone since I last wore it) so I'll stick a belt around the middle. I have a 3+ hour drive each way to the funeral and my feet will swell in the heat so it turns out I can't wear the shoes I'd planned to wear (I can barely get my feet into them tonight).
So, I'm thinking: longish black dress as above (the sleeves come to 1/2 way down my upper arm, the hem isn't far off my ankle). Flat sandals (foot problem, no heels here!) with pale beige/gold/pink straps. Thin gold belt. Creamy coloured unstructured shirt style jacket which I'm unlikely to wear. Cream coloured handbag.
I normally like bright colours, loose clothes and flat shoes! That aside, does the above sound acceptable for a funeral? The dress will be fine (not stylish, but appropriate), it's the rest I'm a bit uncertain about.
