Urgent - help a hot, fat menopausal woman find some trousers!

As the title says I'm 58, overweight (trying to do something about that) with big boobs and a short waist, I'm 5'4" and generally feeling quite dumpy and horrible. I'm also struggling in the heat but I really need practical clothes for work, trousers not a skirt or dress.

My favourite FatFace cotton jeggings just split across the bum - and I guess jeggings are well out of fashion now anyway. Literally the only trousers I have left that fit me are thick dark denim jeans.

I've tried on lots of wide legged trousers and honestly they just swamp me and make me look even dumpier - I also think I would ridiculous in barrel leg or carrot leg trousers - the opposite of what I want to achieve! This is what I am looking for:

Cotton - ideally with some elastane for stretch
Not cropped
Straight leg, not skinny, not flared.
Ideally no pockets for a smoother look.
A range of colours would be great but definitely navy.
Not ridiculously long.

I have a pair of the M&S ankle grazer ones and they are "almost" right but the waistband is just a tad snug on me which is uncomfortable, I need something more accomodating of a menopausal belly.

Bonus points if quick delivery is offered!

Please help, please please please....thank you!!

M&S jersey straight leg trousers are brilliant for work. But too warm for this weather. I'd go for their linen straight leg trousers in navy or black.

these are great! The indigo colour are navy in real life. Super comfy. Don’t be concerned about the pleat at the front - they sit surprisingly well in spite of my rotundness! I’m also 5ft 4 and struggle with length. These are perfect. And they’re in the sale!

Have you tried magic pants? They’re not cotton sadly but I find them so comfortable and flattering. I’m a 14/16 and wear the bigger size for a more casual look and the smaller size for a smarter look. They aren’t see through either

@Rina66tganks I have had magic pants and liked them but they’ve got a bit of a jeggings vibe too I think?

I might try the M&S straight leg linen although my Mum who is 80 wears them!

I actually tried my M&S ankle grazers on yesterday and as I’ve lost a bit of weight they did fit, but a bit tight around the tummy…

Seasalt have straight legged trousers I think the style is Waterdance? They do up at the side so are very flattering across the front and are comfortable.

OP 53 and same height. Have a look at the Boden Richmond 7/8 trousers loads of colours and super comfy.

check out the petite linen wide leg trousers from Hobbs, very comfortable and they have a sale on now. I bought a linen suit last year from there and bought the trousers x 2 as they were so comfortable. I think the problem with a lot of wide leg trousers is they are not designed well for petite people.

Rina66 · 20/06/2025 09:02

@lurchermummyif you buy the bigger size in the magic pants, they fit like a straight leg trouser. I agree, the smaller size fit me like a jegging, but I have the bigger size too for a different look.

Apologies if unhelpful but is there a particular reason why you can’t wear any type of dress to work? They’re just so much cooler in this sort of weather.

I have some Zara pants (as attached) that are straight/slim barrel with an elasticated waist that are easy to wear & fit better than the M&S ones. They're all khaki/brown or grey though in linen mix or cotton. There is one navy style that looks like denim but the sizing on it is enormous.
