Hi
looking for some suggestions. I live in trousers and tops but I need a dress for my DS graduation.

I see lots of companies on instagram or facebook but I would rather a personal recommendation.

im looking for a summery dress. Not too “loud” /bold. Size 24. About £100 is my budget but would stretch for something better. Huge tummy. Being blunt.
thanks for any suggestions.

Why do you need a dress?
If you are most comfortable in trousers then why not wear trousers?
I'm wearing trousers for my son's graduation

A really nice trouser outfit?

Bigearringsbigsmile · 16/06/2025 20:54

How tall are you? What colours do you like?

Toochubby · 16/06/2025 20:57

Oh good questions.

I guess a dress as he never sees me in one and he worked so hard I would like to make sn effort. Do something different

colours - I like purple but I don’t think I would like s purple summer dresss

i guess I wonder what sort of style would be best.
also would some sort of pattern/flowrery dress minimise my tummy

I find the actual plus size shops unreliable.
River Island used to be fab but it's not so good anymore.
I tend to stick to Monsoon and H&M.
Sometimes Anthropologie can be good, and M&S, although I'm not sure what store stock levels are like with the cyber attack

I have recently discovered
https://www.kitandkaboodal.com/

thanks to a mumnsetter. They have lots of dresses in large sizes and different styles which really helps when you don’t know what will suit.
The one criticism I have is that you have to pay for return postage so don’t go mad ordering everything to try.

So £50 over budget and the 3Xl says 18- 20 but in my experience these dresses run very oversize. I buy at least a uk size down and even then it’s roomy.

The patterns are gorgeous and easy to dress up/down with accessories and I love the fact they have sleeves and pockets.

I have 2 and they are really lovely but quite sheer so (apart from on the beach I just pop a light shift under).

I’ve had a few good dresses from FatFace. I’d probably go for this in the ivory, but given you said you liked purple I’m linking that one

There's also never fully dressed. I'm not brave enough for some of their patterns but they have some stunning dresses

ThePainGrowsStronger · 16/06/2025 21:59

Scamp & Dude make lovely, flattering, comfortable and easy to wear dresses. I'd highly recommend taking a look.

I think the 22 would be a good fit as many styles fit generously.

Way below your price points, but that means you could spend on accessorising them - I like these two dresses from Next.

This one in either floral or leopard print, which is very loose around the waistline. You'd need a tee underneath or some sort of cardigan as the armholes seem very low.

Or this which comes in loads of different colours. It is belted but quite high waisted, so it could work. I think the cut looks good because it's not too baggy and sack like and not too fitted either.

I spent time with a friend the other day who is about size 24, and a bit shorter than you. She wore block coloured linen shift dresses that looked really stylish on her. I asked where they were from and she said M&S but when I looked them up, the online stock is non existent since the hacking. But they were similar to this one from Seasalt, which goes up to size 28. Block colour linen with good accessories would look great for a graduation, imo.
