What to wear for London break?

I’m off to London for 5 days next week with DH. We’re staying in Soho and don’t have much planned apart from a bit of culture and good food and drink. I’m older but still stylish and I love clothes. But I’m struggling to know what to wear? Doesn’t help that it will be warm next week and we currently live in Scotland where my wardrobe depends on outer garments and wool, even in summer. I want to look cool and be comfortable, what’s a good look in London now?

It’s a few degrees warmer down here, so I suggest bringing some cotton tops and a cardigan or hoodie and a pacamac for rainy days. Don’t overthink what to bring, it’s pretty casual down here unless you want to get into the Ritz or other swanky establishment. Just bring what you feel comfortable in.

Comfy shoes
It will be hot
London is spectacularly scruffy
Comfy wide leg trousers/natural fibre tops
Perhaps a simple, cool dress
A cross body bag that you can keep a hand on and keep your cards in separate places.

It’s pretty warm - comfortable footwear and light clothing are best

It can be stifling on the Tube and walking around so I’d wear floaty midi dresses, really comfy shoes or sandals and as the pp said - a cross body bag. Scarf to double for for shade or cover. Sunglasses and maybe a light Panama hat.

Casual suits my style but I still want to look a bit cool. A cool dress is a good shout.

It’s going to be very hot next week - comfy sandals. Linen and nothing too restricting.

Beyondburnout · 12/06/2025 21:42

Cotton and linen. Sunglasses and an umbrealla.

A hand held fan.

It is set to be sunny, mid-20s down here next week, and London always feels warmer. You also always walk far more than you think you will. A couple of pairs of comfy shoes plus some nicer sandals if you are going anywhere fancy for dinner. Don't pack too many clothes and take advantage of the shops!

Lightweight trousers
Wide legged jeans
Pleated or full midi skirt
linen shorts (fine for daytime museums etc)

Boxy tops
loosely knitted cotton or linen yarn tops or those ones that look a bit like crochet
Vest tops and light denim jacket or other light jacket

Trainers / converse
Birkies

For example

Trainers in case of thunderstorms
Sandals
Shorts
Lightweight trousers
or dresses

I reckon you could easily over pack. One jacket max - a denim one seems too warm (and I feel the cold). Ideally a hood.

London in the sunshine is fabulous.
