Eyelash tint with dark-ish eyelashes, worth it?

Evening!
I am thinking about getting an eyelash tint. My sister in law just had one and they look fab. She's a light brunette though whereas my hair is naturally v dark.

Internet suggests it is most effective on ppl with lighter hair.

Wondered if anyone with dark hair has had one and if it was worth it? I do wear mascara most days, as although lashes are quite dark they get lighter at the ends I think, and mascara makes them look longer/thicker.

Don't love wearing mascara due to panda eyes/losing eyelashes as i remove it. Obviously subject to patch test.

Any advice gratefully received!

I have dark-ish eyelashes, but they do go light at the ends, especially on the bottom lid. But for both lids, the dye works really well. I always have the darkest tint that they do (blue-black, I think).

I started doing it because I can’t be arsed with mascara!

Have a go and see what you think - it’s not an expensive treatment.

@BIWI brilliant thanks. Didn't occur to me that you could choose different shades (duh).

I would and go for blue black, makes them extra shiny.

You can actually buy the tint from boots think it’s called eyelure tint in different shades and lasts about a month to six weeks, deffo worth it.

I have similar eyelashes, I got them tinted and curled (LVL) and they looked fantastic.

Ah yeah I did see that you could buy it yourself but I have slightly sensitive skin (although no issues with hair dye) so thought a professional and a patch test in advance would be safer..?

Do it with a lash lift too.

Interesting, this is what you mentioned to @BashfulClam ?

I looked online for before and after pics, but they all looked fake af. I don't think my SIL got a lift but will ask her. I'd consider it if you think it's worth it, the price difference isn't much in my local salon.

I have a tint and lash lift every few months and I love my eyelashes after. It lasts a good while as well.

BastardesEverywhere · 07/06/2025 18:45

Yeah it will still make a huge difference ime.

I have very dark brown hair and I would have sworn blind I had black lashes. Nope...and I only realised that after my first tint when I saw what black actually looked like on me!

Have a tint and lift, you'll be amazed.

BashfulClam · 07/06/2025 19:14

The lift really helps and it curls them up and opens up your eyes.

Lash & brow stylist here 👋🏻

I'd recommend a lash lift and tint and as others have said; a blue black tint. They'll look gorgeous, your lashes are naturally long so you'll get amazing results just don't do these awful DIY kits go to a beautician! I've seen and heard some awful stories

Thank you so much, really appreciate the advice from a specialist! I will book in a patch test on Monday - I'll update the thread if I remember (and if anyone cares lol).

Thanks everyone for the advice! Xx

I'd really like a lash tint, but presumably it contains PPD or similar? I'm concerned about developing an allergy.

ladybird30 · 19/06/2025 15:15

Any reputable beautician will do a patch test at least 24 hours before any treatments, this will show any allergies. Ask them to do it on your inner elbow, not behind your ear, if you're concerned or have had allergies to similar before. The last thing you want is your face/throat swelling up

Thanks, but that doesn't mean you won't develop an allergy. Think I'll avoid.
