I could not choose any knickers…

Going away for 10 day, I do not have enough, went to M&S. Plenty to choose from but I got completely overwhelmed. Two types of shorts, high or low, full brief, Brazilian, thongs, mini, midi, high leg, three packs, five packs, 5 for £12, plain, patterned, lace. Then saw period pants, shapewear, posh satin stuff. I could not choose after making decisions all damn day, at work, at home. I am size 8 in their trousers, but it looked like I would need at least a 10 holding them against my width. May be outsourcing the job to DH, I am sure he will enjoy online research to prepare for the trip.

But seriously, how many types of pants do we need as a humankind? And why do they have a sizing world of their own, don’t we do vanity sizing for knickers?

Im a harvest pants [all is safely gathered in ] fan given up on M and S love Wirapa from Amazon

Is the harvest pants like the sheepdog bra (rounds 'em up and points 'em in the right direction... ]?

M&S high leg are my go-to pants, they are so comfy. And sometimes Sainsbury's Tu range do nice high leg that fit perfectly, not too tight or baggy round the undercarriage.

Non-pant wearers - I f you are serious and not just trying to get a reaction does that mean you wash your skirts every time you wear them as they are basically your underwear when you sit down? Not very eco friendly. What if they are dry clean only? Also - yuck!

No, not trying to get a reaction. I wear half slips, so the fabric layering is the same, just cooler. And, as l said previously, certainly wouldn’t do it with trousers.

WhiskyandWater · 14/06/2025 07:40

Calvin Klein thongs are the best, M and S have too much fabric and it bunches.
For those of you who don’t like thongs because of a permanent wedgie, ALL knickers give me a wedgie because of the shape of my arse, at least with a thong there is less fabric to do it with and so it’s more comfortable. I’m also not sure how it’s unhygienic? I’m not eating my dinner off it or touching any of the fabric bar the sides.

You have a very strange mental image of human anatomy.

Sainsbury's/Tu used to sell the most amazing knickers-low rise knicker shorts, no VPL, lace across the front which sort of held you in, pack of 3 in black for £8. Stopped making them in 2022 and can't find anything as nice!

OneLoudTiger · 14/06/2025 08:06

I got some all lace Brazilian flexifit pants from M&S recently and I’m liking them! They look nice, come up high-ish on my tummy, fit well on the bottom and are actually quite supportive. I’ll be looking at their flexifit range again when I need new pants!

Otherwise I wear Brazilian ones from H&M or seamless ones from M&S (that aren’t actually seamless!!), but I don’t love how unsupportive they are.

Letshavetea1 · 14/06/2025 08:07

Chantelle are the best. Not cheap, but amazing. They’re one size (really does work) and so light. No vpl.

Purplecatshopaholic · 14/06/2025 08:16

I frequently don’t bother with underwear any more - menopause is killing me, lol. When I do it’s M&S thongs as I find them comfy. Free People do lovely baggy, thin shorts and ‘bloomers’ which I love too.

Could you possibly link to those ones for me??

BlueEyedBogWitch · 14/06/2025 08:27

I get overwhelmed buying knickers in M&S too. Takes me ages to find the ones I want, and to make it worse, they’ve recently changed the name of my favourites, so it’s even harder.

I don’t know how people wear those cheese wire thongs ! they look so uncomfortable and sorry to say unhygienic? I could never wear them!

Yes - they are soo unhygienic and I’ve been advised that they can contribute to UTIs. I stay away from thongs now.

familyissues12345 · 14/06/2025 08:39

My gripe with M&S is that they’ve stopped selling the 3 packs in multi colours, so now it seems you can only buy a pack of black, or a pack of pink etc. I used to like the fact you got a black, pink and blue.

Like op, I’m also currently on the knicker hunt as we’re going away for a fortnight and I have nowhere near enough knicks!

Im off to look at the Amazon ones, they sound good.

They are so comfortable, good underwear you shouldn’t even know you’re wearing, if I have to wear big pants for any reason I am so aware of all the material all day and it’s horrible.
There is nothing unhygienic about them people will claim they cause thrush or UTIs etc but I’ve never had either in 30 years of wearing thongs, even the tiny string ones back in the 90’s whale tail style! 😂

Yep! I wondered about this too. As l said up thread, l tend to wear half slips anyway if l’m not wearing knickers with a long skirt. But if I am wearing knix, the gusset doesn’t come in contact with the skirt.

Sandysandyfeet · 14/06/2025 13:21

Eyesopenwide - surely if you sit down without knickers on your naked arse and fanny is in contact with your skirt? I don’t understand why you think this is a strange view of anatomy?

I'm sitting down right now. The back of my thighs and my buttocks are on the chair, my anus and genitals are not. How is that so difficult to understand?

Sandysandyfeet · 14/06/2025 17:30

I’m sitting down and mine are, that’s why it’s difficult to understand. I do have a disappointingly flat arse though, maybe that is the reason - some people are naturally elevated through greater natural cushioning? It’s not something I really want to research tbh, and I still think no knickers is a bit grim.

Whenim63 · 14/06/2025 17:31

Sloggi Stringtime (think they are now called Zero feel) thongs. Totally comfortable, do not nip your fat, decent gusset, no vpl. All I ever wear. £20 for a pack of 2 from Amazon.

I’m the same. Both are elevated.

Also flat of arse and no 'natural cushioning' (good choice of words though 😉)

I think knickers are a bit grim but each to their own.

I would go for a 10 in your case but I hate tight knickers.

Which style do you like or normally wear?
Also, the type of holiday and your clothes can also determine style/fabric

I find M&S knicker sizing to be generous - but I'm overweight. I take a size 20 in their jeans, but an 18 in high rise or full briefs.

I promise that they're not tight on me, but I guess that knickers are more forgiving than jeans.

When I was young and skinny, I tried a thong. Not for me.
