I wear natural looking makeup and haven't worn eyeshadow for years.
I want a "my eyes but better" more polished professional look

.I have extremely sensitive eyes so am looking for budge proof, no fallout eyeshadows in any form.

I'm in my 50s and want neutral or cool neutral shades in matte.

I'm prepared to pay whatever it takes but also don't want to waste my money so want personal recommendations.

I'm also open to cheaper brands, whatever is best.

Finding proper cool shades can be difficult, especially at the lower end so it's probably worth spending a bit of money. Having said that, I've got a couple of recommendations for high street options below too.

On the higher end, I'd consider Natasha Denona. A lot of her palettes are for sort of everyone/everything so a bit bigger than they need to be, but this one:
https://www.cultbeauty.co.uk/p/natasha-denona-my-mini-dream-palette/14968400/ is a nice neutral nude one.

Vieve is nice although I'm not sure about eye shadow - I love their highlighters. But this looks good https://www.cultbeauty.co.uk/p/vieve-the-muse-eyeshadow-palette/13313978/ Might be a bit too dark/glam for your needs?

I love Mac eye shadows and you can buy a little case and then pick your own colours so that might be a good choice for you.

On the cheaper end, as someone who has struggled to find good cool eyeshadows that don't cost a lot, I've been pleasantly surprsed by:

this Elf palette

Also, have generally foudn for every day basics, the Revlon ones are good.

Clinique chubby sticks are nice

I'm a summer, so cool-toned, and my current favourite for a one-and-done daytime eyeshadow is Wisdom from Trinny London, applied with my finger. I also like the Mac Krytonite palette.

CointreauVersial · 03/06/2025 13:12

I was also going to suggest Trinny London Eye to Eye in shade Wisdom.

Just a lovely, creamy taupe with a satin finish which looks so natural and doesn't budge all day.

FourBlackCats · 03/06/2025 13:22

I have also had the Trinny Wisdom and it was good for me (fairly neutral). I was also going to recommend Lisa Eldridge liquid silk eyeshadow in Ione, but it seems to be permanently out of stock.

I have a Laura Mercier eye shadow stick https://www.lauramercier.co.uk/products/caviar-stick-eye-shadow-original in a neutral shade which goes on well

I have this one too (it was in the JL advent calendar last year!) It's great - matte, easy to apply and doesn't budge all day. And the shade is very "my skin but better"

Noshadelamp · 03/06/2025 13:32

Thank you, so many lovely options! I'm excited to be able to wear eyeshadow again.

I keep getting ads for Triinny London, I wasn't sure if it was as good as Trinny herself says.

Actually @Roundaboot just realised it's called au naturale, looks lovely!

@Noshadelamp Sepia is the shade I have

MattCauthon · 03/06/2025 14:16

Oh yes, I also have a Bobbi Brown eye shadow stick and it is a great base or just for a bit of colour with not much else on. Good shout from everyone else!

Clinique chubby sticks are nice

Sadly the Clinique chubby sticks for eyes have been discontinued. So disappointed! As a replacement, I have my eye on the ones by Bobbi Brown. Beauty Pie have got some nice ones too, including a cool brown, both matte and with a slight shimmer

(Have been shopping around for alternatives!)

May I ask which shade you have?

OMG, I’m behind the times! Still using a little stump of one so will be looking on here for replacements!

I was tipped off by a kindly consultant and I bought two spares! Bobbi Brown in particular looks to have a very good replacement - loads of shades.

Mine is golden bronze. It's more brown than bronze!

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 04/06/2025 07:34

I was recently recommended Bobbi Brown on here and am a convert
Easy to apply, and they stay put. Even at the gym after work!
Can't advise on shades I am different colouring, but there are tonnes.

Gatekeeper · 04/06/2025 08:14

Can thoroughly recommend ELF matte no budge stick in Thrift Shop

BeautyBlanche · 04/06/2025 08:43

I don’t rate Bobbi Brown since it was sold off. Do try Bobbi Brown’s brand for older women which is Jones Road available mail order at Liberty. Their service is good too.

Cheaper end is Urban Decay but you need to choose the Naked 2 palette if you want neutral tones and no shimmer. I don’t rate the other Naked palettes as they’re too shimmery and fall out plus don’t work well on older skin in my experience.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 04/06/2025 09:22

I just came on to recommend the ELF no budge stick in Thrift Shop. I rarely used to wear eye shadow as I find it falls or creases but I wear this for work and it stays in place. Very subtle colour, just looks like my eyes but brighter! It's the best I've found since chubby sticks were discontinued.

CraftandGlamour · 04/06/2025 09:26

Gen See 'Linen' is excellent. I'm.in my 50s. Used to wear Trinny but it always disappeared on me. The Mac cream eye primer is also very good
