Eye liner for a 68 year old shaky hand

I would love to add eyeliner to my 'less is more' makeup routine but I am rubbish at applying. I have tried a few and no joy. Any tips would be gratefully received. Current makeup style is Clinique Even Better foundation or CC cream in the summer. Clinique lash power Mascara, Benefit Hula Bronzer and Maybelline Superstay 24 hour Lip colour. I don't wear eye shadow these days. When I was younger I loved to wear the whole works!

What about an eyeliner stamp?

24Dogcuddler · 30/05/2025 23:18

Brown or grey kohl smudged might fit the look you are going for or white to make your eyes look bigger ( maybe not with a shaky application) You could ask for advice in Boots or a make up counter in a department store.
Have you tried creamy eye shadow pencils or sticks swept across your upper lid just above the lashes?

I really like these

You can do as thin or thick a line as you like and they’re quite soft so go on easily but last well. I use Coffee Bean.

I use dark brown eyeshadow as eyeliner with a dampened thin eyeliner brush. I correct any mistakes easily with Superdrug eye makeup remover wipes.

MerylSqueak · 31/05/2025 00:46

I use both of the things described by @Imogene and @BestIsWest . I've got the gunmetal colour in the no.7. sometimes I also put on a more traditional eyeliner in grey/ black underneath and use the no7 stick to soften it.

When I use eyeshadow I use one of those angled brushes.

I also use a Laura Mercier stitch shadow in a dark purple aubergine shade. Obviously, not all at once.

Echobowels · 31/05/2025 00:57

I have a tremor and just use a dark eye shadow along the upper lash line, applied with a small flat brush.

Interesting..I have never heard of these!

not what you asked, but have you considered a tattoo? I love mine, saves me so much time. Most days I don't even wear make up any more, and people don't ask if I'm ill.

WhereAreWeNow · 31/05/2025 11:49

Clinique quick liner is good (although a ridiculously small amount of product for the price). If you go for a soft colour (I love smokey brown) it's less important if you're not super precise.
Also try to support your arm when you're applying it. So prop your elbow on a table to steady it.

I have considered it in the past but far too much of a wimp!

Use eyeshadow gives definition without being too harsh and easier to apply.

You can buy a tool that is marketed for those with weak hands or Parkinson’s disease.

Guide are the branded version but you can buy the same thing unbranded on eBay and Amazon.
Google disabled eyeliner tool.

Sometimes you can damp the shake with a wrist weight!

Azuresky68 · 02/06/2025 18:31

Thanks so much for your suggestions.. I bought 2 of the Number 7 eyeshadow sticks plus a lip pencil as there is currently a 3 for the price of 2 on Number 7. When I went to the till I got a voucher for £5 off which the cashier applied to my purchase. Very happy and thanks again!

I use Laura Mercier eyeshadow caviar stick - I have rosegold (light grey hair, brown eyes, medium skin). I like it because it’s solid but you can smudge or blend with a brush. Find it very easy to use and lasts well.

Levithecat · 02/06/2025 18:43

Glad you found something!

NovemberMorn · 02/06/2025 18:45

Use a kohl pencil top and bottom and smudge it in...I also darken the water line along the bottom lid.
