Lemon cropped chino - fashion faux pas?

Am seriously considering buying these shorts in yellow - am a UK size 16 or thereabouts and am wondering whether that broad an expanse of yellow is going to make me look like an elephant who's just crawled out of a bowl of custard...

Have already got them in navy but wanted something more summery...yay or nay?

No

MargaretMountford · 21/05/2008 13:14

mm, can't get link but I think lemon is a bit middle aged

MargaretMountford · 21/05/2008 13:14

oh,got it - no - I think cropped trousers that short and probably in general are not very flattering on anyone

JackieNo · 21/05/2008 13:15

Sadly, no, I don't think so either.

STEP AWAY FROM THE LEMON CAPRI PANTS.

Stick with navy and go nautical.

ManhattanMama · 21/05/2008 13:18

Haha I knew I was being optimistic.

So should I not even be wearing them in navy? Are cropped trousers that bad a look?

I would like an extra pair though - is khaki OK?

Have to say, I quite like cropped trousers. How tall are you, ManhattanMama? I'm quite short, so find they don't always work on me, but if you've already got a pair and like them, go for it. Khaki better, I'd guess. Also more versatile.

maidamess · 21/05/2008 13:21

I think cropped trousers can work if you wear them with the right top. A puffy billowy style blouse and wedges would look great, but flip flops and a vest might not.

MargaretMountford · 21/05/2008 13:22

only wear if you have neat ankles imo

ManhattanMama · 21/05/2008 13:25

Am 5'10 with reasonable calves and ankles - although I do tend to veer towards the flip-flops rather than heels I'm afraid.

Shame about the lemon though - am really getting into wearing yellow after years of being scared of it. Does it make any difference that I've not got pasty white skin? Was always told that yellow suits darker skin tones!

not meaning to be blunt about all this - I have some cropped trousers and I never feel they look that good - my ankles are fine but the general look isn't pleasing to me...plus I have seen lots of unfortunate bods in them, including badly fake tanned calves which puts me off

ManhattanMama · 21/05/2008 13:25

Not that all white skin is pasty (before I get myself into trouble)!

yellow might be better as it makes a statement more than lemon...lemon seems a bit fey

RosaLuxembourg · 21/05/2008 13:37

Step away from the pastels, please.
You are certainly tall enough to wear the crops, but if you are dark-skinned why not go for a vibrant colour if you want more summer zing?
