Getting out of a jumpsuit

Worryabouteverything · 28/05/2025 20:58

I've just bought a lovely jumpsuit. It suits my body and hides my belly.
Got home asked DH to zip it up he then asked how I was going to get out
to use the loo on a night out. I have short arms and couldn't reach the zip.
Dam it will have to go back.

Can you tie a long ribbon to the zip and use that to unzip it ? Choose a nice ribbon and if could look like part of the design…

You reach over your shoulder and pull the zip down as much as you can (like from the neck), then move your arm under to grab it from mid back.

mdinbc · 28/05/2025 21:08

This is one of my pet peeves. How do they expect women to dress and undress? A zip along the side seam would be so much more practical.

Worryabouteverything · 28/05/2025 21:09

@casualcrispenjoyer unfortunately my arms are very short
and not very flexible.

Will try and attach a ribbon to the zip and see if that works.

I have clipped a necklace on instead of a ribbon. A relatively cheap one so that if it breaks I'm not too bothered.

Another vote for the ribbon. You can get very thin ribbon from Hobbycraft or online. Thread it through the part of the zip that has a little hole and tie it off.

I have lots of jumpsuits and just one that I somehow can’t work the zip on and I’ve done this. I tuck the ribbon down inside when it’s not in use.

travailtotravel · 28/05/2025 21:40

I had this and ribbon was my friend. I do also ask if I see women in the loos wearing jumpsuits if they need help with their zip. Not in a perky way but I go to a lot of black tie does abd recognise when it needs doing so don't be afraid to ask for help either!

healthybychristmas · 28/05/2025 23:12

So it zips down the back? That's crazy!

onegothgirl · 29/05/2025 00:16

If you work on stretching exercises for a week or 2 you should be able to reach to pull up. I wear jumpsuits a lot and can do the loo pretty quickly now.

Rayna37 · 29/05/2025 05:21

I don’t understand this at all, I get it’s annoying to have to strip off for the loo but I’ve never not been able to reach a zip behind me? Just practise a bit! Assuming you’re not an arthritic elderly person it should be possible?

healthybychristmas · 29/05/2025 07:51

Why are you assuming she's not an arthritic elderly woman? They are allowed on here as well!

Worryabouteverything · 29/05/2025 09:17

@Rayna37 @onegothgirl I'm over 60 but as I have said before that I have SHORT arms. Born this way.

It’s not just undoing it, it’s how you’ll do it up again as well. You’ll need practise on your own with the ribbon before you decide to keep.

I have short limbs and a long body, there is no way I could do up a zip on the back of a jumpsuit. I don’t think that’s hard to understand. Not everyone has the same dimensions. Most jumpsuits are not wearable for me, anyway, because the body is always too short.

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 29/05/2025 10:02

Return it. If more women refused to buy jumpsuits that make going to the loo impossible, shops would redesign them to be toilet friendly.

onegothgirl · 29/05/2025 11:55

A front zip one might be easier

henlake7 · 29/05/2025 17:39

I like the ribbon idea, that sounds practical.
The only jumpsuit I have with a back zip is thankfully quite low so you dont have to struggle too much.
Generally I prefer front zippers though, much more convenient.
