Thread on favourite jeans...... what to do?

Sorry if not right place to post.

My favourite jeans have a pull on them. It's elastic. If I cut it off am I likely to get a hole? Love these jeans.
Any advice on best way to sort?

Push a needle partway through where the snag is, catch the looose thread in the needle hole and pull it through.

Poke it back through to the other side with a needle?

I use a special snag needle for things like that. Works really well. Instead of a joke, it has a rough section that catches the loose thread.

Thats what I do too, never cut it off. I have 2 cats who like to flex their claws on my trousers.
