Bridgerton style dress for a wedding.

Good morning,
I am calling on the masses to help me find a dress for a Bridgerton themed wedding. I need to be able to buy it off ' tinternet as I live on a teeny island. I am 5'6" and don't wish to spend loads as I doubt I will ever wear it again. I also have a large chest and don't want to be in competition with the drag queens that will also be at this wedding... so go easy on the sight of heaving bosoms please. Thanks!
P.S I have never watched Bridgerton.

Have a look on etsy, there are a number of regency style dresses there. What is your budget?

greenapples · 23/05/2025 10:47

£60 - 80 maximum (especially if I am never to wear it again).
How do I stop Etsy showing in USD? (Never been on Etsy before). I typed in co.uk and then when I type in search bar it all pops up in dollars argh!

I'd google "empire line maxi dress" as this is basically the regency style. Plenty of options pop up at under £100 some of which would be reuseable. There's quite a bit of choice on the John Lewis website if you use that search term. (Sorry for some reason MN won't let me post a link)

Then just style with long gloves and some costume jewellery. If you have long hair put it up and stick some feathers in it. If its short try a band around the head - this sort of thing https://www.amazon.co.uk/IYOU-Headpiece-Rhinestone-Communion-Accessories/dp/B09XVDXMRN

Londonmummy66 · 23/05/2025 11:17

For example something like this dress https://www.next.co.uk/style/su161119/q82299#q82299 then sew up the split, wear with long gloves like these https://www.dentsgloves.com/products/womens-long-satin-evening-gloves and have a look at regency hair styles - so short hair and a band like the one I posted earlier or long hair in a messy updo with either feathers, a couple of thin jewelled hairbands at different angles or even a strip of fabric tied turban style. Lots of bling, a cheap fan and a regency style reticule handbag like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/146251874032?_skw=beaded+handbag+monsoon&itmmeta=01JVYA8X0693AK3R2PAMHDPH2V&hash=item220d4a7ef0:g:-EwAAOSwoRFnTx4m&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA8FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1e%2B6RlWXQXBqrIG0JKUA0D16N%2FAdc2q1mK7QiMqQTaA8z2fufgdlTvB%2Bdfffjizrn%2B4yQpg8%2BeruWWSrmGRyROEGcEH4cwmeO8MO0NW8KICh0QVoB0yl4xARc7gGq9o1Ly1QOlUWJvwCqLz9%2BE6tq25CUkejUi4XS5FU4WDz253kPaflD2pNVq1epOUQ9srNIVZUpKvwH9V7jPhWsjUKFY%2F795XuvXAhkByUxID0wfEMfZ4l43gIT0NbYeLXH%2B%2BaZ25ipCvDA5Jyvt5%2Fn0n6eKNnG1GBGM7X%2BXZ6rsoEWbC9w%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR6DQo8rfZQ

Remember that if a dress makes you feel a bit busty then it would be in keeping with the regency style to put a small fabric/lace infill panel in place.

A search for "empire line dress puff sleeve" should do it. The Bridgerton costume design is much more flamboyant and colourful than 'actual' Regency era clothing, so don't feel you need to go too Jane Austen.

Thanks everyone. It has given me a good starting place to look.

Something like this maybe? Tie-detail maxi dress - White/Floral - Ladies | H&M GB
Off-the-shoulder poplin dress - Beige/Floral - Ladies | H&M GB
Puff-sleeved cotton dress - Light blue - Ladies | H&M GB

The empire line style seems to be labelled "milkmaid" dress on some sites.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 23/05/2025 16:30

Amazon do quite a few empire line bridesmaids' dresses that would fit the bill. They are likely to be polyester and come from China, but would be reasonably cheap and look the part.

Belindabelle · 23/05/2025 20:42

Lucky you. I would love to go to a Bridgertone themed wedding with drag queens. That’s one dress code I could get on board with.

Long evening gloves, small beaded bag and tiara for accessories. Maybe a large feather in a band for a headdress. I loved the clothes worn by Eloise Bridgertone.

MayaPinion · 23/05/2025 22:25

Vinted have loads. Just type in Bridgerton dress or costume and you can probably pick up something wonderful for about £30.

TunipTheVegimal24 · 23/05/2025 23:54

You sound so enamoured with the wedding theme OP 😂

FagsMagsandBags · 24/05/2025 00:38

I do like that orange one in terms of looking right. I also think that looking at Empire line bridesmaid dresses if a good idea. On places like that site and ASOS. Find out what colour she's going for with the bridesmaids though so you don't look like a spare one. The empire line can be very large breast flattering. It's a versatile style.

Mummyoflittledragon · 24/05/2025 07:00

If you go on Amazon and search regency dress there’s loads. The style was low cut. This dress is either roomy in the breast department or perhaps just swamps this model, just wondering if it would be any use to you. https://www.amazon.co.uk/NSPSTT-Regency-Dresses-Victorian-Sleeves/dp/B0D95Q3DJZ/ref=sr_1_12_sspa?crid=1FPZ52Q5K5HQC&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.qomX5WoNJr3XNUOdYJ0w7rO-mxiuWUvfNaUKCkqStSLqjwsMYatGbY6FCUq_9unLgTxbJ4VHHB9V0bea2_9i4Vnq3wee5YBGhMylE5zs0Wq7cOHrUge7IWcTV2f8fI-cXURUYioZkyWhg8xGe5w30hgj3dCHub2J2Hfiar1uwkYGCKhZ2yqC8GJ6FXTiZ3szyHbn1Y9mhw9P0hDcbHXJLX5yOf2Ed6YLB354I4tsJprDPQv3cuZlus9I5nBfX4ImfeLT258EdD07mYIyIt4M03c73s4PjSmxy9u1QIqEwKU.6Sw9f2g1iLhvu_moAYopWCoveWklMHwnMghOCgb6jmQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=regency%2Bdress&qid=1748066133&sprefix=Regency%2Caps%2C112&sr=8-12-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9tdGY&th=1&psc=1

I don’t know your size and you’d need to get this taken up, but it would be glorious with some jewellery and gloves. It’s also £13 on Vinted, so there’s space in the budget if you’re not handy with a needle and thread.

If you’re definitely not going to wear it again have you thought about hiring? I suspect there are enough Bridgerton inspired events that there will be pretty good options.
