Highlights, a question? The dreaded root line.

How often do you get your regrowth done? These pics are mine after only 6 weeks and I feel it’s looking terrible.

Is there a way it can be done that makes the regrowth less obvious? I am wondering if I need to change hairdresser. Or do I just accept that if I want my highlights to be this light, then of course the contrast with the natural hair is going to be stark?

If I had such naturally dark roots at 51, I'd be showing them off!

That’s a great way to look at it!

I was in a similar predicament a few months ago. Sick of the roots and the frequent visits to the hairdresser. I asked for some low lights all over to blend the roots in a bit and then a toner all over to make it all more natural looking. My hairdresser said it was a 'bronde' colour rather than a blonde!
im really happy with how it has turned out. Am still blonde, albeit a darker blonde but without the obvious root line now.

I go every 8 weeks. Ask him to do them a bit closer to your scalp.

There are some darker tones in the blonde parts of your hair but they look a warmer brown than your natural colour. I would try to match those darker tones better to your natural colour. I think it will actually help the transition between roots and dye look less drastic. Toner?

Otherwise agree with the others, you need a hairdresser who knows newer techniques like root melting/'lived in blonde' etc

I don’t think she did ask to be honest, and you just come across as inexplicably unpleasant

Inexplicably unpleasant? That's a bit of a leap @may2025

Thanks to @HundredMilesAnHour for putting the other side.

I think on S&B it's fair to point out anything that is dated and perhaps unflattering when a poster puts photos up.

You may have noted that there are several posts after mine suggesting a different tone of highlights.

OP's hair and skin are quite dark - she's brunette not dark blonde- and going white blonde with highlights is always going to show regrowth very soon. Changing from your natural colour to something very different is always going to be a problem.

Like others have said, I think that a few shades would work well together and maybe she needs a more up to date hairdresser.

Still no apology for the ageism I see.

I’m envious of your no grey. I’m a year older and have loads. It also grows far too quickly so my roots, dark and grey are visible after 3 weeks.
