Mixing warm and cool tones of the same colour in one outfit?

OK, this is a little bit niche and not the sort of thing that anyone I know in real life would have any opinion on whatsoever, so I’m coming to the women of Style & Beauty hoping that you will have opinions on this.

So, I have come to the conclusion that I like fairly soft cool tone colours in my wardrobe: taupes, greys, blues, etc. I’ve bought some really lovely neutral or cool toned dark brown accessories like a beautiful Steve Mono bag from toast, and some lovely brogues.

I’ve been looking for some sandals, or summer shoes and have bought some tan coloured fisherman sandals that I really like from Russell and Bromley. However, these are a pretty warm tan. and I have heard a style rule of not mixing warm and cool tones of the same colour in one outfit. In which case having the warm tan alongside cool tone browns is a no-no.

As shoes, they are too far away from my face to worry about them not suiting my colouring, but if they disrupt the harmony of the overall colour palette, should I steer clear?

Should I return these sandals, or am I being too ridged sticking to rules like this? Is tan such a classic that it almost counts as a neutral anyway?

I am sure some people will say if you like them wear them, but I am torn. They are £275 which is too much to spend and regret.

Here they are: https://www.russellandbromley.co.uk/siracuse/124320?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=20821020445&gbraid=0AAAAADoNT5L5SprLP-Yg_iRR-dfH4_g0Z&gclid=Cj0KCQjwiqbBBhCAARIsAJSfZkbFJMYU6zXAdv_Z3gQT9rH3XEZisrRY81HMBZEyLBX8XhoCHXS1vJQaAp_2EALw_wcB

Massimo Dutti seems to have cool toned chocolate brown shoes at the moment. It's hard to tell from the screen but they are definitely dark brown rather than tan or chestnut.

Ah I have very similar fisherman sandals from la redoute, also in tan. I wear them with navy trousers, washed grey, blue or cream jeans and also black or navy cords. Love wearing socks with them too. I feel like tan is versatile with most shades except cool brown. But that also wouldn't really put me off combining the cool brown leather bag with them. I think outfits that are too matchy look a bit contrived.

I was actually in Massimo Ditti the other day and they had some lovely looking shoes, but I have big feet, and everything made me look like I was skateboarding. The Hush ones above are quite nice, but they seem to be suede, and I can tell that they would have a frumpy sort of a look on me. What I liked about the Russell and Bromley ones was that somehow they managed to make my feet look smaller and more contained than they usually do. It’s very common for my feet just to splurge out like massive boats.

Aaaaaargh! I have spent far too much time today on the Hereu website and had decided to buy myself a beautiful pair of sandals, and a cream handbag, and then seen that customs and duties are not included in the shipping. I’ve had this before and it ended up adding too much to the price, plus there’s all the additional faff if you return them ☹️

If you wear cooler tones, then maybe get a black pair of fisherman sandals, but also find a straw bag with black trim.

These sandals from Sezane aren't fisherman, but still stylish, in a cooler tone, and would pair well with a straw bag for summer.

and this little straw bag:

Or I did find these cooler tone beige sandals:

I bought a bag from Hereu last week and shipping was 25 euro, but you can sign up to emails and get 10% off. It also arrived a lot sooner than I expected it to - within a few days. Lovely lovely quality.

All the above have a selection of Hereu shoes (+ some bags). Some are on sale.

Apologies - I’m so used to seeking out UK stockists first!
