Leggings under short denim dresses / tunics? OK, or a huge Nooo?

I've got a couple of wee denim summer dresses that I've had for ages and love to bits, but are far too short for me to wear in public now. Was wondering about putting leggings or cropped trousers under them? Would that be ok?
And if it was, does anyone know where to get suitable legging / trouser things, not too expensive, perhaps on-line?

i like that look. how old are you? how short are they? imo you want leggings to just under knee or skinny (cropped if you like) trousers... ie not too much material / volume going on.... and flat ballet pumps / shoes, not heels.

My leggings are in fact my touch of 'good stuff' I have one pair Pineapple (I'm a dancer) and the other from Wallis, they are lovely and thick with heaps of lycra in so hold their shape very nicely, not to mention staying put where i want them. Mine were about £15 which is expensive for leggings IMO, but dunno how that sounds to you.

I'm, um, 34 and not very big but a bit pear-y. (OK, quite pear-y). They're short enough that when I used to wear them it was always with frilly knickers in case I forgot and bent over (they're dh's favourites in my wardrobe).
But they're soo comfy!
Below the knee and skinny was what I was thinking, hope I have the nerve. Maybe I'll just get one pair and try the idea out . .

OK, you're both being encouraging, this is good! Now, what colour should I get? Dresses are both (quite) light denim (yes, they're that old). Have found these which would perhaps be ok?

Ta, off to look at next. Might try for cropped trousers as opposed to leggings as I'll be able to take them up if I need to (only five foot tall).

i like. go try it, if you change your mind you can always have a go at a few looks. Have a look at oasis if you're passing one, they have all kinds of stuff too
