Short hair for over 60's

Ok it is pointless carrying on with a bob when my hair is mega frizzy and I have a potato face.

I love the pixi look but do not have a pixie face.

My problem is when I try to cut and paste an image it is mainly pinterest and won't let me. I am trying to get some images to show the hairdresser tomorrow.

I don't want a fringe or hair in my eyes but also don't want everyone to see my huge forehead.

Any ideas or photos?

Anyone?

Not sure what you mean by cutting and pasting - can you show the hairdresser the images on Pinterest?

unlikelywitch · 15/05/2025 16:23

Your post isn’t very clear. You like pixie cuts but don’t have the face for them. You don’t want a fringe but want to cover your forehead. I wouldn’t know what to suggest to you. Save images from Pinterest onto your own board or just screenshot them to show to your hairdresser. No need to copy and paste.

Oh and there are products and styling tools that tame frizz.

JaneJeffer · 15/05/2025 16:25

Something like this? You can screenshot the photos if it won’t let you save them to your phone

Yeah tried loads of products but next morning, it gets my hair greasy. I understand the confusion (which is why I need help!). My face is too big and potatoey for a neat pixie cut but I loathe hair going in my eyes. Too often it is fine in the hair dressers but 'relaxes' and then doesn't look good at all! I admit I do not spend time on it. I don't blow dry - rheumaticcy arms.

Make an album of screenshots on your phone and show her that. You don’t need a printout. It’s 2025 (isn’t it?)

SwedishEdith · 15/05/2025 18:57

Something like this? Link was posted on another thread but I've seen her Instagram account before. If your hair is frizzy, my be best to work with it rather than against and use a diffuser.

I have a grade two cut back and sides with the top cut in (so slightly longer and long enough to spike up). Two disadvantages, one is that I have to go back every six to eight weeks to get it cut again otherwise the top goes up and up and up (I have peculiarly thick yet thin hair that grows up rather than long) and the other disadvantage is that I am frequently called 'sir' or 'that man over there'.

But I love having very short hair. Much easier to care for. I'm 64.

StasisMom · 15/05/2025 19:00

@SwedishEdithI’m about to get in the car or would do it, but I think you’ll need to post a screenshot - don’t think the OP will have instagram…

Oh, good point. She does mostly videos so a bit blurry but, hopefully, you get the idea.

Thanks @SwedishEdith! And that woman has lovely hair.

Yeah because I am also big I don't want to look Butch!

This is the weird thing. I'm not big, I'm a slim 5'6 and with a 36 DD chest and small waist. There is no way on this earth that I look like a man. But, to some, short hair = man.

Sorry don't have Instagram or a diffuser! I really am a wash and go type of person!

I know I am frustrating everyone!

Well, I shall just pop in and ask what the person thinks would be good for me. Anything is better than this 'Jesus' curtained frizzy bob which looks nice for a few hours after having it done and then becomes a frizzy mess and accentuates my big potato head!

Iheartmysmart · 16/05/2025 07:53

I’ve got quite short hair and it does need washing every day. But it dries quickly and then I use a bit of wax for definition then I’m done.

You could ask your hairdresser what style they think would suit your face shape and hair type.

Something like this might be nice.

Moier · 16/05/2025 08:19

You cannot expect a decent hair style/ cut to just stay the same as when the hairdresser did it.
She would have cut it and blow dried to match the cut.
You have to put some work in.
Products/ a decent hairdryer with a diffuser or a straighter or something else.
If you want a " style" there isn't hardly any that's just wash and go and leave it.
What about products for frizzy hair.? Loads in boots/ super drug.
Loads of videos on You tube how to style.
Also look up Davina fella on Instagram. He gives tutorials .. Michael Douglas .. celeb hairdresser.
I'm 66 with Osteoarthritis and l have natural curly hair ( short) so l either work with it or look a mess.
I have it cut every 6 weeks.
I don't think there is any more advice any of us can give you.

unlikelywitch · 16/05/2025 08:40

I agree @Moier.

OP, there’s no cut in the world that will continue to look good with zero styling, especially with unruly hair.

I’d advise investing in a silk bonnet or pillow case at the very least. It’ll lessen frizz and breakage.

It's just a weblink. It doesn't need
Instagram to open it.

A good hairdresser will listen to what you want and need and give you something that doesn't need loads of styling. You need to tell them all the things you've said here.

Flensburg · 16/05/2025 08:54

I take screenshots of haircuts I would like, then show them to my hairdresser on my phone. They are saved in the photo gallery.
Could you do this?
You can Google how to take screenshots on your particular phone model.
Good luck!

Yes that does look nice!

Well I have gone and had it done. Just cut shorter and a bit of layering. It is ok. Being an ageing punk I would like it short and spiky but I am a "Mrs Potato Head" and also overweight so would look rather 'butch' even though I large boobs and wear make up.

I bought some hairspray so it doesn't get flyaway.

Thank you all.
