Am getting married in 4 weeks and am having to do my own make-up as budget has gone skywards. The only decent thing I have is a boxed Touche eclait. Was hoping to buy the mascara/eye shadow/foundation/need a primer so it lasts all day and lippie and I only have about £50. Can anyone please recommend any not-so-expensive products they have bought recently that they have been really impressed with? (else I may just have to go out and buy a 50 denier veil)

Smashbox are doing a 'today's special value' on QVC on sunday. I'm hoping they're including the primer in it as I really want that and I've seen it recommended lots. It should include lots of goodies.

GOSH makeup in superdrug is great and 3for2 at them moment. They do a primer as well.

Have a look on www.makeupalley.com for recommendations .

urban Decay eyeshadow primer is a tenner but is worth every penny.

janeite · 19/05/2008 19:26

And a decent primer will let you get away with cheaper eyeshadow - I quite like Revlon and Bourgeoisse (sp?).

chocolatespiders · 19/05/2008 19:27

what is a primer?

carolcupcake · 19/05/2008 19:29

Superdrug Instant Radiance Balm, just like Clarins Beauty Flash Balm but only £3.95, fab as a primer

mummyplonk · 19/05/2008 19:31

oh great carolcupcake, it looked like the primer was going to guzzle most of the money based on what I have seen. I have never used it before but understand it makes your foundation last much longer?

Yes, it helps it last longer, gives skin that sheeny "candlelight" look and just basically makes you look more awake and firmer.
I can tell you how I use it if it helps? Don't want to be patronising though

Carolcupcake - no please install all of your knowledge, have got a sponge for my foundation, but wasnt sure about primer, and really dumb question but are all concealers the same colour? I have a couple of red veins that could do with a bit more coverage.

Waswondering - Yes, I remember my pre-children days in H.O.F, I will lurke around and see which lady looks the friendliest, good idea.

ELF mkeup has had some good reviews - and v reasonable.

carolcupcake · 19/05/2008 20:36

Concealers aren't the same colour, and Touche Eclat which you have is really for under your eyes as it has light reflectors in it that bounce light away and brighten up your eyes, it can draw more attention to blemishes and things. I don't use concealer at all, put on your foundation and if you have any blemishes/veins etc use a teeny bit of foundation as a concealer, its the only way to get a proper colour match to your foundation and I think concealer is a bit of a con to be honest.

If you put on your moisturiser, wait 5 mins, then put on your primer, wait 10 mins then put on foundation. If you do it too soon the primer won't have set and rubs off in little blobs.

I use a mineral foundation, its the best thing ever! I would spend money on that (ebay, bare minerals) then use collection 2000 for all your colour cosmetics or Bourgois, its made in the same factory as Chanel make up!

Great, thank you very much for your help, the lady who has been doing my facials also mentioned oil blotting sheets to keep throughout the day, am going to have a big shopping list...oh and of course the waterproof Mascara.
