Cover up for black tie dress? Not a shawl!

I’m attending a black tie dinner soon. I have a black strapless dress to wear but suspect the attendees may be dressed slightly more conservatively. I’m really happy with the dress but am after a stylish cover up to show slightly less skin.

Not keen on pashminas etc as I think they’re a bit boring.

can anyone offer a suggestion? Budget up to £200

Any chance of a photo of the dress?

Gorgeous. I'd get a tuxedo jacket and push up the sleeves.

Thanks! These are a bit fussy for my style (the long cloak is amazing though!) but good to see anyway

Actually I like this idea. I think a lot of the capes being posted so far as a bit too fussy for my taste

Glad you liked the long cloak! 😊
I did too - but could never wear it (not the right shape at all).

Your dress is amazing. I think it needs something very light and minimal - maybe like what GetMeOutOfHere20 posted.

Cape will be too much. Deffo go light and can then still see the dress for what it is

This? Chiffon shrug. https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/787506425/black-mesh-bolero-see-through-cover-up

You could look for a Japanese Haori. There are some beautiful vintage ones online often made of silk.

I would do a faux fur cape

I’d wear a cape/cloak (any excuse to wear one!) thingamajig, but a sheer, plain one. This would depend on the style of dress, though. I’d go a shorter length with your dress, but because it is free of embellishments and other details a cape would definitely would be my choice. Unless you can get hold of a chic, cropped, fitted little velvet jacket.

I love your dress. My vote is for the Etsy shrug. Have a fantastic night out.
