Holy grail of knee length Shorts

jeaux90 · 12/05/2025 08:56

I absolutely hate short shorts. Inspired by the lovely thread about jeans for the be-bellied, I wanted to start a thread for those of us who have knees like bowling balls.

Not being able to find nice knee length shorts for a couple of years I did find some from Free People that I really like. Anyone got some recommendations?

No, but following with interest! M&S used to do some great knee length cargo shorts, but sadly no longer. Am keeping fingers crossed that their magic shaping denim ones suit, as they look a bit longer, but they were out of my size in the shop yesterday

I should have qualified this by saying there a loads of denim ones out there but cotton/linen or soft material like towelling (bought some Hush wide leg trousers last year and it renewed by love for towelling 🤣)

I get my denim bermudas from Tu at Sainsbury’s( some via Vinted)
Also have cotton beige ones for when denim is too hot
I I have CP so I’m wonky in general and have only had the confidence in the last few years
surgical scars everywhere too.. No one cares!

Weirdly, some of my nicest shorts were from the men’s department in US Target. I can only think they were aimed at not very tall men with quite narrow waists. But def worth looking at men’s ranges!

Bought some last year from M&S. on the hanger they looked long and had those roll up sides. Useless for me, a tall person.

In the past White Stuff have been good, I have some from about 2-3 years ago that are good. My other best buy are charity shop ones.

My sister lives in the US and some of her nicest buys have also been from men’s. Why do they get cool knee length shorts? 🤣

@netmums100 those are nice but guaranteed they only go to above the knee even though they say they are knee length. Was looking at another brand earlier and they described as knee length but in the photo they clearly weren’t. So annoying!

Outdoors type ones are sometimes better.

I’ve got some excellent ones from oex, two pairs in each of two colours.

If I could find where I put them away last summer would be even better.

jeaux90 · 20/05/2025 07:18

Ordered some from hush linen ones, only two colours but fingers crossed!

Don't shoot me.... Cotton Traders and Lands End have lots of one length shorts.

Whiteflowerscreed · 20/05/2025 08:31

I bought extra long chino shorts from Joules. Were fab. Let me see if they are doing this year

DrBloom · 20/05/2025 08:32

ninepine if you’re tall

Mens! Just looked at some on here,I'm on a pension,no way could I afford £70/80 for shorts..I just got some in Sainsbury's, I've got "smart" shorts, but a tendonitis flare up, can't do buttons or zips ATM,so got size small, pull ones. I actually buy trousers and make them the length I want.

Check out Wears My Money she did a blog issue about this very subject recently. Think she’s 40+ if that’s relevant?

Thr key it seems is avoid ones which cling to your thighs as it makes you look like a sausage 😁

I really can't wear knee length shorts in my 60s. My legs and knees are shapely but it's insta-frump for some reason.
I'd much rather wear something like halara capri pants. Much more flattering.

NotMeNoNo · 20/05/2025 13:55

I like the option of knee length shorts, sometimes I don't want to get my legs out. Last week I bought a pair of jeans from a charity shop and simply cut them off and folded them up - job done. Any kind of trousers can be shortened and it's an inexpensive alteration.

The proportions of shorts change so much with what top or shoes you're wearing, there isn't one length for everything.

Some of these are a bit more like pedal pushers (surely due a revival) https://www.roman.co.uk/trousers/shorts

Robell also do long shorts, I tried the Bella ones, despite being comfortable they looked terrible on me but someone else might be luckier. https://sosimply.com/robell/shorts
